Re: Complete mad max costume

Very cool! I just saw one of the yellow Interceptors drive by me last week...for real.

Re: Complete mad max costume

Im assuming your in the States Galactifan, I know of a few yellow interceptors
and some black ones getting around different parts of the US and there are many here in Oz.
Am constantly fighting the urge to go out and get a cheap Falcon and start the process.

Thanks HeroWorship, the first movies costume is fairly crisp and new, perhaps your thinking of the MM2 costume.

I gotta whip out my video camera qickly the next time I see that yellow car. It's very thrilling to see that car on the road here in the U.S.

Looks good. For the tally marks, you might consider using a white undercoat and then painting the black topcoat. Then scratch your marks. From what I understand, the original caps were white plastic.

Cheers, I didnt want to have to repaint the cap so i just etched in some
lines with light grey paint and a sharpened match.

Re: Complete mad max costume

As for the baton, I work at a costume shop and we have WOODEN batons that are extremely close to the one he had. I haven't compared the handle or overall length but If I have any left or can get a hold of any I'll PM you. I'm also working on a max 1 costume. I'm working on it for Dragon Con on labor day weekend so I only have a month. It probably won't be screen accurate but I'm gonna try my best. I have leather pants (gotta take off the pockets) and I'm going to alter my old motorcycle jacket. I MIGHT get lucky and a shop might still have some boots which are really close but about a size too big. Just gotta get a shotgun, holster, pistol, glasses, gloves, and shirt. I'll make the shotgun and holsters no sweat. Shirt, gloves, badge, and glasses are the only thing I'm worried about.... Other than making sure I can find boots that are close haha.

Re: Complete mad max costume

I recommend the Motobiker "Mad Maxx" gloves available on that auction site (cheaper and more accurate than AbbyShot's). Hit up the Mad Max Movies forum and check the Costumes and Props page for lots of helpful info. Karol can hook you up with a badge.

Re: Complete mad max costume

Everything MFP 2020 said hammerheadandy.

I am very interested in the accurate baton if you have extra. Thanks.

The original glasses have never been identified so you have to scour ebay
under carrera and police sunglasses etc to find the closest pair. Finding an original Bonds blue raglan is as tough as the rossi boots,
perhaps harder so dont be put off using any similar blue t shirt.

Re: Complete mad max costume

I just checked this morning and the grip isn't the same. Its closer to your plastic baton. Max's had ribs in the grip for his fingers didn't they? I'll break my rule this year and it won't be screen accurate (I just don't have enough time or money) so I'll settle for a slightly different shirt and maybe no shotgun, just a baton and pistol. If you still want a wooden baton just for the sake of having a wooden baton, let me know!

Re: Complete mad max costume

Also, since its so hot in Atlanta I MIGHT not even worry about the jacket this year. who knows. I ride on two wheels anyway so I can justify the abbyshot jacket.

Re: Complete mad max costume

incidentally, How would I go about getting/making the shoulder pads for MFP jackets? I know how to make RW and BtTD pads but I'm still having trouble locating a source for the first movie.

Re: Complete mad max costume

I think it's coming along great. The fact that you added the tally on the pads is great. Something I never noticed (then again I watched it like 2 years ago and it'd be A WHILE before that-at least a decade).

Re: Complete mad max costume

I need the dummy for a Blade Runner project so there really is only one way to store a Mad Max costume. Will do a basic look around for a similar trunk but will
probably have to scratch build one. I already know where i can get me hands on some of those hinges.

Re: Complete mad max costume

One of the hardest parts to collect for a complete Mad Max costume is an accurate belt and buckle. After much searching i ended up using one that was accurate
in look but the actual belt and buckle are about 5-10mm short.

Im always looking to improve any project and was lucky enough to come across a source that has a good supply of the correct belt size
and buckle design in all sizes and are cheap. They are from ebayuk and are ex police belts.

Heres a pic and the link

Re: Complete Mad Max costume

Very excited to come across the final peice of my costume puzzle, the sunglasses. Anyone who has put one of these costumes together knows how hard it has been to get a reasonably accurate pair of MFP shades, well thanks to the MM crazy Japanese, that dilema has been solved.

Heres the link to the company in Japan that sells them.

No, they are not cheap but they are completely accurate.
