Well, unfortunately I didn't get it 100% done, but it
was wearable for Halloween, just without a lot of the details.
The night he went to wear it I had my sister try it on for length and realized one arm was sewn on upside down. Had to take it off and reattach it. When I did that, I twisted the lining so an arm couldn't actually go into the sleeve. Had to take it off and reattach it again. When I did that, I realized the cuff was not also upside down. Had to take it off and reattach it. Ran out of bobbin thread half way. Had to go back and re sew it.
Then had to add more trim to the back of the opposite sleeve and the front of the reversed the right way sleeve.
Slapped it on with some glue and called it a day so that he could wear it in time. 2 costumes ... both incomplete. I feel like a major fail. But at least I have little detailing projects to work on throughout the year now. And let's not kid ourselves, the detailing is the most fun part of making a costume!
Have to hunt for better trim for the hat... definitely need to remake the vest and add the detailing there. Probably will end up making the entire coat over since I don't like the trim I used and would rather find something better. Though in my procrastination, that's all I did was trim-search and never found anything quite good enough. Darn that costuming company for using such an impossible to find trim! >O
And he lost one of the shoe toppers. BOOO! We actually have pictures in one spot of the casino... he had both in one and the next picture it's gone. And no one noticed it left behind!
BOO. Oh well... that's a tiny thing to make.
Here are some shots of how it came out in its temporary state for one of our Halloween outings. I actually think that even if I complete the detailing on the current coat, that it'd be a massive improvement in the overall look. The trim is definitely still too wide and long down the front but the feel and look is still there... with all the buttons and tassels it would only crank up the snazz factor!
