Jedi General Rahm Kota

Thanks Ryan!

I got something in the mail yesterday that I hope to use to anchor the bandoleer to the costume so it doesn't want to fall down the shoulder. I picked up two rare-earth magnets. These things are wicked! They are only 1/4" thick and 3/4" diameter coated with epoxy, and each one by itself will hold a bowling ball! In fact they shipped them with a plastic spacer in between them.

I'll drill out the bando buckle and epoxy one inside, then epoxy or hot-glue the other one behind the breast plate. I tested the pull at 1/2" apart and I'd guess it at about 5-7lbs. Hopefully that's enough to hold against the weight of the holstered lightsaber and keep the buckle where it's supposed to be.

Weekend update:

I made a second tunic over the weekend, just to have a spare. The first one was deep dark brown color, but was a very thin cotton gauze. I'm afraid it may tear if I'm not careful. I also wanted a back-up in case of multiple-day trooping (like D*con). The new one is not as good a color (it's a bit too light brown for screen accuracy) but it's poly-cotton calcutta and very strong. It even holds the heavyweight shoulder bells without the armor harness.

I hope to receive the boots this week, and as soon as my leather crafter gets the bandy finished I'll post up the final pix and put this thread to bed. :p

It's been a long journey.

I got the boots yesterday. The leather is fantastic. Very soft and thick. They are about an inch too big around though, all up the shaft. I thought the front "Qui-Gon" type straps would be adjustable, and they do have velcro closures ... but the maker didn't leave enough room in the little slot "pouches" that the strap-ends tuck into. :confused

So, to make them fit snug at the tops, I'll have to trim about 3/4" off each cross-strap. It's doable, but it's more work. :unsure

Other than that, the boots look great. The shoe part fits like a pair of Reeboks. Very comfortable. All of the edges are in need of brown dye touch-ups and I've already done half of one boot. I should be finished dressing them up by Friday, that's when the bandoleer is expected.

Stay tuned for pix (will be my Rebel Legion submission pix) this weekend.

Mel Mattson, my leather crafter, just sent me preview pix of the bandoleer highlighting the cross-etching and saber holster:

She's going to try to get it to me by Friday.

So the project thread ends the way it began, with the first reference picture.

I owe a debt of gratitude to a great many people. To all the forum members of the Rebel Legion, The Jedi Assembly, Flagship Eclipse, and the Replica Props Forum (RPF) who gave advice, input, and opinion; to my sister and her family, who endured countless days of bugging to help me make plaster body casts; to my brother, who helped me brainstorm the armor mounting system; and especially to Thomas Spanos and Pam Simpson for their excellent crafting tutorials, without which this costume would not have been built.

To my outsources, Mel Mattson, leathercrafter extraordinaire; to Carlos Diaz, who is still willing to build a pair of boots from a napkin sketch, and to Don Close of Do-Clo Custom Sabers, who gets up at 5AM every day 'cause it's "time to make the lightsabers."

I am grateful to you all.

Amazing job!

Now all you need is a bit of weathering on the soft parts (cape, pants, tunic, etc), the battle scars and you'll be all set!

Can't wait to get a pic with you at D'Con! I'll be the one roaming around as The Doctor (blue suit).

I can't wait to troop with ya again, Freedom and Terrapin have to get together soon..

You did a hell of a job, I salute you....

Yeah, I was (am) kinda afraid to try tattering the cape ends. I don't want to screw it up. :redface I do have just enough wool left over to make one more pair of tabards, which I'll most likely do. After studying the final pix and the reference pix, I see my tabards are about half inch too wide and inch and a half too long. When I make the new ones I'll use the old ones as guinea pigs for fraying the capes. I do need to get some dirt stains on the pants too. I think the tunic is OK as is though (probably won't last too long anyway, as it is VERY thin cotton gauze).

I'll definitely look for you at D*Con Ryan! I appreciate your comments. :D

Thanks Ed!

Yeah we do. Did I miss the CF thing? I'm planning on attending BCC this year. The new costume should be pretty hot only 2 weeks after the Force Unleashed releaase. :D

Re: Jedi General Rahm Kota - Full pix page 11

I figured out a cool way to keep the bandoleer in place. I drilled out the buckle and epoxied a high-power earth magnet in the hole. Then I glued a matching magnet on the back side of the BP. When the buckle gets within 2-3 inches of the correct position on the BP, the magnets pull at each other and lock the buckle into place. It's a lot of fun. :D

I shall make it quick and painful... errrrrr... wait. :p

Well, in any case I'll do my best. :D

Will you be wearing TK?

~ Bill C.
I'll just be a random original sith lord. "Darth Antagonist" because it made me laugh.... haha. I'll be the one with the yellow staff-saber.

What's TK? Is that a character from the game?

TK is the "inside" name for Stormtroopers. It's the 501st number designation for Stormtrooper costumes. It comes from the line in ANH, "TK421, why aren't you at your post?"
