That photo is of the same display piece shown close up in the last photo of my first post (from the "It's Alive" animatronic exhibition that was on a few years ago).

Problem is, I'm not convinced that that head/display is actually the one used in the movie (the shirt is definately different - look at the pockets - and the eyes don't appear to be able to move, and the eyes are not glossy like in the movie). I have a great photo of the display mouth stitching (see post 1), but I don't think it's the same as the one in the movie.

On another note, I've finished up painting my head (after filling more and more and MORE air bubbles!):

Next I will be adding the leather stitching and the hair (once I find some!). :)

I remember seeing this on ebay, but was a little skeptical about it. I'm glad someone on here voluteered to be the guinea pig! :p
I've been a fan of the movie and shrunken heads in general and may have to pick one up anyway. It's a little off from the screen-used, but not too much.
You're doing an amazing fix/paint job on it!:cool:thumbsup

Nope, it's from the "Action:Adventures In Moviemaking" exhibit that was here in Chicago in 2004.

The shirt looks like the same as the one quartermain is wearing as well! Who knows? Maybe its the same cosume? Stranger things have happened!

Maybe it IS Quartermain who got his head shrunk! :eek:lol

Ah, OK. The other photos of the head when on exhibit (see post 1) are from "It's Alive". Didn't realise that this guy had been shown anywhere else.

Here is a picture of some guys tattoo I found shows the stiching of the mouth pretty clear. Don't know how accurate it is though.

Hmmmm..... Now HIS picture shows yet ANOTHER stitching variation! :lol
So it's either:

XXXXXX (shown on the exhibition prop)
or
|||||||| (possibly shown on the screencap)
or
VVVVVV (shown on the tattoo)

I was skeptical too, but it was worth a shot. Turns out I was right to be skeptical (the cast quality sucks - as shown in the 1st post) BUT it's a nice piece when it's cleaned up.

I'll get some caps from the Blu-Ray tonight, if no one beats me to it...

That would be awesome! :):thumbsup

Looks like the stitching is a little of both X's and V's...

Here's 3 shots of the head from the Blu-Ray... I brightened them up a bit so you could see him better. You should be able to make out the exact stitch pattern over most of the mouth from these... Also, notice the eyes do move as they are looking different directions (and you can see them move in the movie).

Those pics are FANTASTIC! Thank you! :):thumbsup Yep, that seals it, the exhibit head is definately NOT the actual head used in the movie. Will get to work with hole placement right away......

I love this movie... very nice work.

It will make a awesome Halloween display when you finish the rest of him.

BTY, here's a scratch-build Snake-Head Beetlejuice that my buddy sculpted.

That is awesome! The snake-head Beetlejuice is on my list of things to own/sculpt.

OK, using those HiDef screencaps I've done the mouth stitching - not strictly accurate, but close (the mouth isn't actually sculpted wide enough to get in all the stitches that should be there).

Sadly the high def pics show that my colour palette is off (browns and purples rather than pinks and purples), but I ain't going back and changing that now.

Been working on a shoulder and neck display base for him. Cheapest I could come up with is the Gaffer Tape Mannequin. So one old long sleeved T-shirt and 65m of gaffer tape later....

Once I slit it up the back, took it off the mannequin and retaped the slits, it's strong enough to stand up by itself without any stuffing. :):thumbsup

Mudrock (bandages pre-treated with plaster - just dip in water and slap 'em on) was then built up around the neck and area that will be expose when his shirt is on. Waiting for that to dry completely....

You know, Howlrunner, the head you received may not be screen accurate, but now that you've done all the necessary cleanup and detail painting I think it's gonna be one fine display piece!

OK, finally made some more progress on this! I've been gluing hair to the head (sliced up a wig I got for £1) for the past couple of days - it's taken AGES to finish!

I've also built up the neck stump so it tapers more, then gave the whole thing a thin covering of air-drying clay to get a nice smooth (non-bandage texture) surface. Then I sealed it all with varnish and painted it up to match the paint job on the head.

The shirt arrived today - but it's too small!!!! Luckily I have another one - same style, but larger - at my work address. Will have to wait weeks until I can pick it up and get it back to finsih this guy off though.

So, here he is finsihed - minus the correct (or at least, close) shirt and necktie/cravat/bandana:

The Blu-Ray screen caps show that the necktie on the exhibition prop is ALSO not original (as well as the head and shirt!). I need to track something down that seems to have been tie-dyed (or it's batik or possibly even some other technique?!) mainly maroon/burgendy.

Any ideas where I can find the necktie? Or even what style the colouration is so I have something to search for?

Cool. You need to wrap strings around the pinched in area of the neck, to tie things down. But pretty cool looking piece! :thumbsup

There is some string tied round the neck, but I agree, it needs to be thicker. Will get that sorted when I get the new shirt put on him.
