UK bans the import of *anything remotely harmful*...

Re: UK bans the import of replica props...

You're right of course, even more difficult are the ones with Sterling L2 printed on the magazine well.

Re: UK bans the import of replica props...

Seems like film, stage and 'field' re-enactors have it sorted now. Tick tock, tick tock...

A friend of mine recently wrote this about the subject:

I've read the relevant section of the bill and it is quite frankly a load of half-a**ed BS.

Folks in the Lazer-Tag community (who have been in touch with them) say the police don't like the incoming legislation at all, and will most likely ignore it if they can. As far as they are concerned, the illegal firearms act thingamy already covers everything relating to a**holes strolling down the high street with toy guns stuffed down their pants. They literally have not got the time for it. It will likely come down to some future test case if ever one comes along.

However it remains to be seen what happens with ebay.uk itself, If some "kids n' guns" parents group kick up a stink they may feel pressured to do something like ban the sale of gun shaped lumps of resin and alloy. By that point we are getting into banning the sale of toy guns in toy shops territory, which is so far past the Political Correctness Gone Mad(tm) stage, it stops being funny anymore.

He's done some research, as well as being a Laser-tagger himself, so I think we'll be safe as long as we don't come up against a nosy neighbour whose a jobsworth member of the constabulary!

I'm sorry guys but a lot of people are missing the point.

It doesn't matter what the Police think about the law. It's Royal Mail and any and all other couriers we have to worry about.

Thanks Blad i was gonna point that out if you can't get the darned things in or out the country or even safely post them within the country the police are the least of the problems.
On a trooping side of things though do you suppose clubs could use the theatrical thing as a loophole and class themselves as a street theatre group ?

Re: UK bans the import of replica props...

Well, if you generally count on them and expect them to be ignorant, that can be used to your advantage. Say you're importing a MR Stormtrooper blaster for example. If you have the sender include a letter and declare on the customs form that it is to be used for a "film project" or "theater project", they might just look in their "lazy-list of rules" and see that theatrical and film use is ok, thereby letting it slide.

Register a real or make a fake production label. "UK Fan Flick Theatrics Ltd." or something. Stick it on your mailbox. Have all prop packages sent to the production label's address (att: your name). Easy peasy. Nothing illegal there either if you at least do some planning around a fan film or something.

Or make sure you at least have a simple web page nicely documenting your collection. I.E. your Online Prop Gallery. Register a domain name... "Bob's Country Prop Gallery on teh Interwebb" c'mon... it's dirt cheap and just about anyone can learn enough basic HTML to put up some prop photos. Shoosh, you can even do it in MS WORD (!)... just don't admit it to anyone or say that I told ya you could. (HTML pages coming out of word have choked just about each and every web browser to death on at least one occasion.)

It ain't all gloom and doom. Y'all just gotta be a little more crafty when importing props and given the high level of ingenuity on this here RPF, should not be too much of a problem. :thumbsup

Well, in fairness, knuckledusters are illegal in most sane societies. On the other hand (pun intended ;)), you can make a makeshift one with a Bic pen and three coins...

All this banning is just hurting the collector. It solves nothing. :(

Re: UK bans the import of replica props...

so can you still get swords imported at the moment ? thanks ASAP

Re: UK bans the import of replica props...

I know many Brits just don't get the US gun culture, but man, this is plain excessive. If I was on the other side of the pond, I'd damn well be getting me a visa.

Re: UK bans the import of replica props...

How about a nice hard baseball bat or good old 2 x 4? Those banned too? I'd bet on those beating any blaster replica in a fight any day of the week. ;)

You could just go the Rockford Files route.....A roll of nickels in your fist. A little liquid soap on the floor wouldn't hurt either. :lol

Re: UK bans the import of replica props...

Everything's more expensive here AND we can't buy replica weapons?

This is just so pathetic. I love this country, but I don't half hate the government sometimes.

Does it cover the importing of kits?

Re: UK bans the import of replica props...

I think you can probably import a kit but...

36 Manufacture, import and sale of realistic imitation firearms

(1) A person is guilty of an offence if-

(a) he manufactures a realistic imitation firearm;

Re: UK bans the import of replica props...

But they'd have no proof that I'd manufactured it (put it together) after the ban had come into affect.
