I found this last weekend. It's the closest thing I've found so far.

Wow, that looks great. What is the size of that thing? Is that ebay, flea market, or did you find that in a store of some kind (or have you been raiding crazy old hermits houses in your neighborhood?).

That is sweet. I would love one of those to put all of my *cough*crap*cough* into I mean my prop collection.

Please share.

Anyone have a pic of the "real thing" handy?

The edge work is missing the diamond lattice detail, and I think the screen used prop has a single hasp and not the double arrangement shown on this piece. Nonetheless, it's a nice chest on it's own right.

I don't have a clear screen cap of the front. Just the side and interior top. Don't have a place to host it, so I can't link or post it here.

I was spray painting a truck at a friend of mines studio and when I went upstairs in the building, the chest was just sitting there in the hallway.

I don't own it and it's larger than the original one. Apparently it's been there for a few years.

I know it's not exact but it's the closest thing I've ever seen..

With the chest used in the movie, they probably just purchased a hand carved wood chest there in Tunisia. A friend of mine lived in Saudi Arabia for many many years and has tons of chests that have the same sort of feel as this one that came from that region.

From what I've read, it's an Indian Dowry Box.

Here's some pics of the original one. There was a good thread on this, but I can't find it.

I don't know who's image this is. Chime in if you don't want it posted.

I believe you're refering to:
ANH chest
but like my Exactra tutorial, all the pictures are gone :( .

I came across this yesterday:
Bombay Company Chest
It has the same "feel" as the prop chest having the embossed metal accents, and it's from India. At 13" wide, it should accomodate most hilts. And for $19, I intend to get one for my sabers. :)
