He-man cartoon sword... Why not

I have had a crap load of requests for this and with the help of my buddy Jeremy we are going to make that happen... He is going to make half a wooden master on a 4 axis CNC, that I will prep and cast... They will be sand casted in aluminum and hand polished... This is in the basic stages and here's a few pics of the rendering.. And since this is in the infancy and also there are so many people wanting this.. Lets pool our thoughts and see what we can do to tweak it and make it better before Jeremy cuts it out ....

We are excited to be a part of this build! And it will be cut on a 4 axis CNC machine!
This is also our first 3D design.
Fabulous Powers will be bestowed upon you when you hold aloft this magical sword and say you have the power!

It's really, really nice! I'm going to be watching this topic very closely. Masters of the Universe is my favorite '80s property, and I collect Mattel's current line of Classics action figures too. So I'm exactly the sort of person who'd get very excited with a project like this.

In terms of feedback. It's hard to say actually. My first instinct was that either the blade was a bit too long, or that it should taper out of the guard area a bit more gently.

But being a cartoon, the Filmation sword had some variation in how it appeared. Sometimes it really was longer and thinner, much the way you have it here. I tend to think of it as a little shorter and broader, like this

But your proportions are equally as valid in terms of how it was sometimes drawn by the animators. I hate to say what looks better or more balanced, because I just happen to have one opinion that's probably an amalgam of a lot of different illustrations, toys, and cartoon scenes I've seen throughout the years.

*the photo is of a reproduction of a sword made for a float that was in the 1986 Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. found it on he-man.org a while back. credit goes to that site.

Antigravity that's a great front facing pic... I think our version is 31ish inches so it's not super long..
Thanks for the input :)

You need to post a youtube of you in the backyard holding the sword aloft,

"BY THE POWER........" :D

It may just be the rendering, but the hilt/pommel area looks oval and pinched at the ends. The four spheres I would think wouldn't be round necessarily. Those might need to be a little flatter on top and bottom. Kind of squeezed.

Perhaps a gentler slope to the mid edge of the blade as well. Not as skinny for the entire length.

Definitely following this thread with interest!

I agree, your model seems to have "flat" pieces for the handle and pommel, they should be cylinders, these look like their rounded but flat.

Oujala hit it on the head. Fix the pommel, and make the "arrow" portion have a gentiler midline slope. The blade should come right out of the arrow" part smoothly as well. Also, Id make the four "balls" join with the rest of the sword at a less harsh angle. they seem tacked on as of now.

Aslo, look at the toy swords (or pick up one of the letter openers that just came out). The toy sword is a different sword, but this one evolved from that. Comparing the two gives you a reason for all the parts and shapes.
Can't wait. Will buy depending on final design and price. Definitely cast em out of alluminum. Steel would be unweildable. (although perhaps the flat blade could be made in steel. That may be very cool.

I've posted this here before, maybe you've seen it. I don't know if it will be of any help to you, but it's the model sheet the animators used to draw She-Ra's sword (which is basically He-Man's with the jewel.)

I'm still working out the kinks but ya the hilt has a couple flat spots in it. I should have those worked out within the next week or so. The software is a little new and this is my first real project on this machine.
Thank you do much for the feedback. We will get it worked out.
