"Beretta 9mm... 16 in the mag; one up the pipe; wide ejection port - no feed jams..."

Finished this up today...

Painted and sanded the slide body; Wrought Iron Black sanded to 1500 then hit with Testor's Semi-Gloss Clear.

Painted the Beretta logos on the grips silver (see thread for explanation)

Barrel muzzle is photo-shopped black to remain compliant.

Picked up the Denix version.

Typical... A little clunky. Bad paint. Non-functional Safety and Slide Lock. Also no logo molded into the grips.

My interest is matching the pistol used in Lethal Weapon...

I can't do anything about the non-functioning elements of the Denix copy. But I plan on a re-paint. Maybe some other mods.

So...

Questions for the experts:
--Those that know, how does this Denix copy compare to Rigg's pistol, beyond what I've mentioned?
--How can I add the logo to the grips?
--In the film, during his near-suicide sequence, the logo in the grip appears silver - is it, or is that just light refraction?
--In the film, during his near-suicide sequence, the barrel muzzle appears tapered - is it, or is that just an illusion?

For the grips, you might contact RPF member Matsuo. Matt has sold me several variations on the Barretta and his grips are gorgeous. It would be worth asking him if he'd sell you a set.

Ted.

If you're talking about this one,

I'm not 100% certain, but you may be out of luck with the grips. Far as I know, most Denix replicas except for 01-300 Deluxe 1911 have the grip screws molded in/permanently affixed. You may be able to carefully break them off and re-tap the frame for new screws and grips, but If It were me I'd be going with a better quality base gun to work with. YMMV.

About the muzzle, the barrel is the same diameter the entire length. There is no taper at the end.

Totally understand about the quality of the base gun.

Good to know about the barrel.

Even if I have to JB weld the grips, I'd be OK. It is a prop display afterall...

Thanks!

From IMFDB:

"An identifying feature of this particular 92F was the gold finish on the Beretta logos on the grips."

Re: Beretta 92 Experts - Need help...

Looks like a shoddy quick paint job over the molded Beretta logo. That should be easy enough with new grips.

Re: Beretta 92 Experts - Need help...

You want a flat paint. I would suggest the Ultra Flat camo paint from Krylon. It looks pretty good to my eye, and mimics a parkerized finished pretty dang well. Just be careful not to overpaint and cause drips.

Head on over to ebay or gunbroker and pick up some real plastic beretta 92 grips. I doubt they'd be much more than $20.

Paint over the logo with gold acrylic paint. I think that's all they did.

Re: Beretta 92 Experts - Need help...

The Beretta 92F does have a very "slight" taper to the barrel, but it is hardly noticeable. The logos are not silver, it is a reflection of light unless the prop department did some modifications on an original. Also be aware that there are about 20 variations of the 92 model, so the one in the film may not be a 92F.

It has to be a 92F, as it has the finger rest on the front of the trigger guard (the earlier SB has a rounded trigger guard) and the film was released in 1987, predating the FS modification.

I think you're right on the money...

Was thinking light reflection until I came across the screen-grab above. Looks pretty dead on that it was painted in.

Re: Beretta 92 Experts - Need help...

It looks to me like the magazine release has been replaced on this Beretta with what appears to be an Allen Head bolt?

Re: Beretta 92 Experts - Need help...

I have never noticed that....what the hell is that? It does look like a machine bolt! :lol

Re: Beretta 92 Experts - Need help...

The Baretta logo has to have been painted. There are no blued models with a silver logo.

Best guess it's the 92FS

In this image the logo shines a bit

Re: Beretta 92 Experts - Need help...

To be completely honest, dump the Denix and opt for a quality airsoft. Here is a number of various airsoft's, a generic 8mm blank fire and a cap fire MGC mixed in with a rubber casting or two of the real deal:

amd a better shot of a Tokyo Marui airsoft with a cast off a live fire real steel 9mm.

Re: Beretta 92 Experts - Need help...

I'm not familiar with the Denix, but for the first movie, the gun was a straight 92F. The grips were just with a painted logo. Beretta made wood grips with the medallion, but it was a smaller one. Some of the guns had an extended slide stop as well. All sequels used standard plastic black grips. The current model 92FS has been modified in that the dust cover now has a slight upward angle to it. The M9 still uses the traditional frame.

Re: Beretta 92 Experts - Need help...

I'm not sure if this has been proven or not but apparently it was the same 92FS that was used by Bruce Willis in Die Hard

The 92F used in Lethal Weapon was used in Die Hard. They did put a longer slide stop on the gun since Bruce Willis is a lefty. All subsequent Die Hard films used a 92FS. There is nothing to indicate the same FS was used in Lethal Weapon sequels though.

Re: Beretta 92 Experts - Need help...

Robstyle is correct, the full metal airsof berettas are closest to the real beretta. The Denix and the various blank fire guns are way off and require a ton of work to even try to get any real beretta parts to fit.
