Hello, this is my first time posting to these boards so if I am doing something incorrectly please let me know.

So I'm absolutely in love with this persons costume. Ever since I've seen it all i can think of is trying to create my own and have it look as close as possible to theirs.
Since I have never done something this intricate I came here to hopefully have some questions answered and gain some advice.

1. I guess first and foremost, what material would i use to create some a feet? I've asked some friends and the most resounding response was EVA foam, heat gun, and plasti dip. I've never worked with the foam before but have been watching a ton of videos. The weapons i have a general idea, I'm at a loss with the armor.

2. How would I get a template for such a costume? Does anyone happen to know who this person is or have any sort of resource I could draw from. How would i make my own template if/when it comes down to it?

3. Any advice or insight is really appreciated. This is a little over my head but I want this costume very badly.

Thank you to anyone who took their time to read my post and helping me.

wow! this awesome dude! congratulations. hopefully my left me almost as well. the best and the best that eh seen.

(don't think it's his costume :p) That being said it is frakkin' awesome!

I would say what most of your friends have said, it looks like that guy has used a bit of everything but I would hazzard a guess at Worbla and EVA foam for the most, maybe plasti-dipped and resin coated the foam to give it some rigidity and a sandable surface.

But if it's your first costume, go big or go home right! it can be a very tedious process at first and that's before you even start building...

How I would go about this:

Find as much reference as you can for the suit, all angles positions etc to get a 3 dimensional picture of it (I'm not sure stuff like this is available as pepakura foam templates but do some research into it maybe you can find something).

Next thing I'd do is begin breaking the armor parts up in your head or sketch it onto the reference helps, say forarm bracer, shoulder, bicep piece, chest base, chest detail. that way you have a better picture of how you can actually use/wear it practically.

I'd then start grabbing a3 pieces of paper and sticking them to myself, in a mirror just try and draw really rough shapes on it... A lot of people make bubblewrap and duct tape dummies of themselves for this, but I cant be asked :) once you take the paper down you can refine the edges make it tidy etc then start to sketch the details. Which is why you need a lot of reference.

you'll use these paper templates to cut out the foam.

Then I would suggest going here:
http://www.therpf.com/f24/jfcustoms-foam-files-148889/?highlight=custom+foam+files

have a read through, there's a lot of good info there.

If however you find a pepakura foam file of the suit you want, ignore the above, print that **** and get cutting :) Do some test pieces etc play around and have fun!

It's so rewarding once you get going so basically... don't give up!
