Dimensions of Thor's Hammer?

So I'm going to build Thor's Hammer from both the Comic books and the new Thor movie.

I've got some HD screens on the movie hammer(from Iron Man 2, not the Thor Movie.), but I was wondering if anyone had any idea what the general measurements of the comic's hammer was so that I can have a general idea on how big it needs to be.

Thanks, any answers would be appreciated.

Yep, that's what I'm counting on. Plus, I've always wanted Thor's Hammer. I might even make a nice stand for it and sell it.

Though I really wish someone had an idea of what the text looks like on the movie Hammer. I'm thinking I'm just going to leave it blank for now.

Norse Lore states that it is small enough to be concealed in his shirt. That was one of its unique properties. The Norse version was made of a sort of magic iron, though, and not stone. (And Thor has red hair and red eyes, not blond and blue. and Stan Lee claims to have made up the hammer's name, Mjolnir, which he 100% didn't)
The size in the comics varies from huge to reasonable, as does the size of Thor himself.
I think it was Factory X that released a pretty nice replica. There's a cheap plastic version that was released last year that is just about the same size as that one. You can maybe use that one for comparison.

would be a great project esp. if you can get the wooden handle. The hammer itself is very basic. Although can see a mold made and concrete poured for the weight for it.

You should make it out of metal and then make the base a powerful electromagnet with a hidden switch. Then you could say only those worthy my lift the hammer and your friends would try but they couldnt, then you go over, hit the magic switch and easily lift the hammer.

hahahahaha!

Well, you have to realize, to make something that thick out of solid metal would make the thing so heavy you won't even need the magnet. It will quite literally whoever is worthy(strongest) to pick it up. Atleast that's what I think. Maybe if I used Aluminum it would weigh a lot less.

Buy my idea was to cut the Hammer out of foam, bury lead weights in the foam to give it a lot of extra weight, then layer on Fiberglass, and end with some Bondo or something of the sort, for details.
I was also going to use Silver Leaf to give it a finished Metal look.

The handle is pretty easy, pretty much just leather and a thick wooden dowel.

I love the electromagnet idea, but I agree with trebory that solid metal would be insanely heavy. I'm thinking wood with a metal plate would work just fine.

I've never really wanted to make a Mjolnir, but I have to say this base is making rethink that.

I know, right? As for the base, I'm thinking a simple charred rock-like piece of the crater that Mjolnir created when it fell to earth. And as an added thing, I kind of want to make fractures eminating from where the hammer lies that light up in a white/blue light. That's just my idea. Haha **

This may be a bit helpful for you: http://papercraft.wikidot.com/papercraft:mjolnir-thor-s-hammer

Use the papercraft/fiberglass/resin method that many Halo armor makers have used to make it happen.

You know, I did see that, And I actually do tons of papercraft, but the design is way too simple. It looks good, yes. But it would be hollow and won't have the feel of a real hammer. But great idea though!

True, but you could use it to the papercraft/fiberglass/resin to make a positive, then make a mold and then pour a pure resin copy. It'd be a bit heavy, giving that "hammer" type feeling you're looking for.

Just as a point of reference--no other reason and to help eliminate any repetitive threads--I have offered these in solid metal and resin here before

I will give any advice or help that you need!:thumbsup

Oh wow, those look AMAZING! And I have a lot of questions, actually. Like how did you cast the solid aluminum? And where did you get the font used in the text? haha

But out of curiosity, will you be doing another run of these? Because It would save me tons of time and yours would probably be better quality than what I would have made, so I would rather buy it. haha

Most certainly I will -- I just need some good pics of it and I will get on it right away!!!!
Its already in my plan.

These are the best screens I've got of the Movie Hammer(BEWARE IRON MAN 2 SPOILER):

I actually machined the ones you see in the reference thread out of solid blocks of aluminum. I am getting prices tomorrow for casting these out of aluminum also.

As far as the reference pics for the new one--it looks like all the corners are mitered instead of just the ends as the ones I have are--not a problem--can do that easily enough.

I have included this pic of a "NEW????" Thor hammer Poster but I am not sure if it is correct or not. I am not convinced if I like it --looks kind of stretched out to me and then some additional relief on the ends--

The Font is debatable as to the correct one to use. I have quite a selection to choose from so I went with what I thought was the closest.

Samuray---As far as the metal look on the resin ones--no problem there--its all in the technique and using good materials and not scrimping on the mold. The resin ones look pretty good but not exactly like the machined ones. After all, its a faux finish!!

Trebory6 ---In no way do I want to sidetrack you from going ahead and making your own--as a matter of fact I ENCOURAGE it--It will serve to help you be a better propmaker and expand your horizons. You will learn a lot by making your own--its so easy to just plop down money and buy one, but you dont half the satisfaction of knowing that you did it yourself.

I will be doing another run of these soon also, I will post an interest list in the JY when I get ready to run with them.
