1:1 Millennium Falcon Cockpit Replica - Group Build

Re: 1:1 Millennium Falcon Console Replica

Hi Gang,

Weather is NOT looking good for the weekend. I'm going to try to get some filler applied to the panels during the week so I can at least hand sand and then paint / pinstripe over the weekend... GRRRRRRR

Re: 1:1 Millennium Falcon Console Replica

Hi Gang,

Not much of an update but... I was able to get a little filler added to the panels... Once they dry I'll sand, paint and then pinstripe!

Like I said... Just a little filler...

Wow!!! That some incredible work!. Can't wait to see more!! (Cheering you On)

Re: 1:1 Millennium Falcon Console Replica

Thanks for the recommendation on the tiles. I got a bucket of the tiles. Happy to report that they have a nice polished finish on them and crisp edges.

and it's hard to get a whole lot of light through them. This is an equivalent to a 60W lightbulb behind a tile. My finger is behind it so you can see a dark portion relative to a light portion.

and here's what the bucket looks like.

Turns out my wife likes to play with them a little bit. They come with 3 catalogs, full of interesting brightly-colored plastic doodads, kids educational products for schools.

I plan to use a few of these tiles in my build. I still have walls to finish and then the ceiling.

Great find on the tiles. I think they'll look great!

I bet 60w is nothing compared to the studio lights they were blasting through the originals.

Is that a cup holder is see in the back ground of the last photo? That's pretty funny. I was going to do a version of my console with cup holders - but you beat me to it!

:)

Yep, I kinda got the idea for a cup holder from the CG model. Way before I joined this forum, I saw the CG model on a Google image search. The modeler had placed an "earthly" coffee mug in the model for his Millennium Falcon for scale, I suppose. I thought that was funny.

These Falcon builds, whether made of wood or computer bits, are great fun to follow. More! More!

Re: 1:1 Millennium Falcon Console Replica

WOW! They do look great against the desk! I contacted the vendor and unfortunately they do not offer the tiles in white... But I think with a brighter bulb it just might work. :)

I'm still searching for the white tiles...

Hi tfig,

Thanks for the kind words. I'm looking forward to seeing more as well. But with all this rain I'm at a standstill... Stand by for some great 3D printed greeblies!

Re: 1:1 Millennium Falcon Console Replica

Hi Gang,

I was able to sand the panels and get coat of paint. There are still a few minor issues to take care of...

I also painted the "buttons" white. I think it looks MUCH better than the different colors. I'm going to remove these from the black base and adhere them directly to the new console panel

More to come!

Re: 1:1 Millennium Falcon Console Replica

Hi Gang,

Quick morning update! This appears to be the LAST of the filler... Next stop... paint and pinstripe!

After ALL the filler I added before you would think...

Hi 100Topher,

Thanks so much! I appreciate the kind words. It's been a lot of fun and a lot of heartache! I just chatted with Starkiller who received several 3D printed greeblies all destined for the cockpit! He's shipping them my way and they should be here anytime! It's about to get really interesting! :D

Re: 1:1 Millennium Falcon Console Replica

UPDATES!!!! The upper side walls are pinstriped and ready for greeblies!!!

Let the pinstriping begin... normally I would have enjoyed this process. But considering this is my
2nd attempt on these panels...

Re: 1:1 Millennium Falcon Console Replica

I think you will never use plywood again .... :D

I've read about coating plywood with emulsion paint / dispersion paint to cover the woodgrain.

Re: 1:1 Millennium Falcon Console Replica

Long time stalker, first time poster... Considering what you plan to do with it, I would definitely cover the back panels. Maybe with a solid black piece of paneling. Wouldn't have to get crazy with it by filling and sanding but it would leave more to the imagination for your folks getting their pics taken in it. :) Maybe also only attach it with a few screws, to allow access in the event you need to change bulbs and what not. Awesome job man!! :thumbsup

Re: 1:1 Millennium Falcon Console Replica

You know it wont stop at a cockpit, next comes the rest of a falcon wink wink
