More WIP pics from the projects beginning, please!

Hey, thanks for all your comments :) unfortunately I've come down with a nasty flu, so there has been no progress at all for a couple of weeks.

But I found some WIP pics from the projects beginning, so enjoy ! (and thanks for the idea, DaddyfromNaboo ;) )

It all started with an engine, made of foam core and paper.

WIP of the first wing :

The method I used to detail the flat surfaces with panel lines : the ones I improvis...err, designed, are made with a layer of thick paper, and the "canon" panel lines are made with two, so they are a little deeper.

I tried for days to build a sufficiently fine meshing for this part of the wings, and finally settled on cutting into a mosquito net mesh thingy (I hope it's the right word, pardon my french)

My first idea for this part was to cut strips of paper and glue them on just like the panel lines, but it turned out reaaaaally ugly (and messy), so I tried to cut LOTS of parallel lines in a strip of foam core with my scalpel blade, and it turned out so much better :)

Thrusters WIP and complete wings (as I said previously, the thrusters are basically 2 ice-tea cans glued together, rolled in paper and sprinkled with bits and bobs)

Fuselage and canopy WIP (it was SUCH a pain in the bottom to get the proportions about right)

And voilà :) more progress pics coming as soon as I feel alive again !

Sooo, I'm back on track with the second wing, and call it bad luck or gross misuse of a brush, but it's quite darker than the first one, even though I used the exact same paints.

Anyway, that's not so bad, I'll lighten or darken one of them when everything is done. And if the difference is still obvious, I'll whip up some battle damage and charred/blackened effets on the darkest wing :).

One of the nice things about the Star Wars universe is the beat up, used, dirty look to the Rebel ships. Mismatched panels, mix of clean and dirty....you almost can’t go wrong with the weathering.

Looking great!!

Oh yeah(y) As for piping, don't forget to use your friendly guitar string (bass ones) it'll be even better in terms of scale;);) Great job, keep up the wonderful effort!!

Oh, guitar strings, that's a wonderful idea joberg :D I'll be sure to try it !

Fortunately I have some unused space on a wall to display it :) but I'll have to seriously think about that if (...WHEN, who am I kidding) I make another model after this one.
