Back to the Future Guess Marciano Denim Jacket (Mexican Version)

Here we have my Mexican Guess Marciano denim jacket. (Top left) Not the exact model from Back to the Future, but an incredibly rare variant all the same. They were made some time after 1985. I am not sure exactly when. Perhaps someone on here knows. I obtained it from eBay which are the last two pictures. It was extremely dirty and smelled pretty bad. Almost like it had never been washed. After washing it is now closer to what it originally looked like back in the late 80’s. The other included pictures are from other known instances of the jacket.

I’ve been contacted by another user that had a chance at a Medium size jacket earlier this year. Mine is a Large, but fits like only a slightly bigger Small. The color is exactly like mine. Here are a couple pictures.

So it turns out that the owner of a vest version of the Guess jacket is within driving distance from me and we were able to do this small collaboration to compare the Mexican jacket to his vest in the right colors. The indigo on the jacket is much darker than the vest and has a more uniform and intense fading. The vest, and in turn the correct jacket, is not as consistent with the fading and has a higher saturation of dye still present. It is very blue in person. Leads me to believe the fading process was in a way perfected by the time the Mexican jackets were made. And I knew this going in, but the blue on the shoulders and pockets flaps are different shades.

Fits ok. Looks kind of strange because the pattern for the Mexican jackets is wider in the torso so it doesn’t quite look like the 1984 jacket. So I actually prefer to wear it buttoned. Looks better imo. I also like to have the sleeves only rolled one time. Feels more comfortable and doesn’t risk getting the liner dirty.

I believe so. But that darker jacket has some design differences than mine and other jackets on the internet. The blue shoulder pieces only have one line of stitching for some reason and the shade of blue is noticeably different. There is also stitching on the pocket flap corners that doesn’t appear on the version I have.

We only know the whereabouts of two of these jackets including mine. The other is the jacket in the top right. Belongs to a woman who posted a picture of her wearing it on Instagram.

The images numbered 1 are not the same jacket I thought? Image on the top middle was originally owned by "Gamester", and the jacket on the middle right was owned by "mattsf2003". Gamesters jacket does not have the word Guess inside on the liner, but Matt said his jacket did have Guess written on the liner.

The images numbered 1 are not the same jacket I thought? Image on the top middle was originally owned by "Gamester", and the jacket on the middle right was owned by "mattsf2003". Gamesters jacket does not have the word Guess inside on the liner, but Matt said his jacket did have Guess written on the liner.

Gamester revealed he knew that his jacket belonged to Matt on an old forum that no longer operates. And you can match up fade lines. Especially the “W” shape next to the white Guess tag. As for the liner, I believe it was damaged at some point and replaced. Only reasonable explanation why the logo is completely gone. It’s the only Mexican jacket to be like that. Also Matt told me about how Gamester eventually ended up selling the jacket along with other costume memorabilia. Buyer unknown.
