Batman: Arkham Asylum Cryptographic Sequencer

Today I printed out the first attempt at the cryptographic sequencer from the game, Arkham Asylum. I messed about with the files to the point of printability. Seperated out the handle and the main body, and had to infill certain areas of the main body to get a printable STL file They came out very nicely for a low "quality" print (printed at 0.3mm layer height with a medium infill (about 8-10mm hexagonal infill) and in an acceptable time frame too. Just got to start looking at how I want to post process these now - I'll probably have a go at acetone vapour treatment again. For this basic first attempt I think I will go for a vinyl or sticker/print out of the sinusoidal waveform that is displayed within the game on the screen area. Eventually I may look at a more advanced prop, but I'm just starting out, so I'm thinking small for now!

I've now messed around and created a graphic based upon a (poor, angled) screenshot of the device "in game" online as a base, enhanced it as much as possible and added a nice basic border sized to the dimensions of the "display" area of the prop. It isn't perfect, but I'm hoping it will be good enough for a first attempt at something like this.

If you have a iPhone or simiat sized android why not make it so it slips inside with a video or the cryptic screen so it actually works

The iPhone screen would be too large for the size I have printed out the prop - I have a smaller android, but it is thicker than the thickness of the prop. There is research going on in terms of how best to bring this prop to life - but as I've said, I'm keeping this one simple.

Aye, that would be cool. But a bit more effort than I was considering for this early kind of prop making, with my unfortunately limited time. I may consider starting a run thread to ship these sequencers out as printed for people to hack away and make their own, however, don't think there is that much interest in these unfortunately.

I think an iPhone would be overkill. With a cheap PC board you could get the same effect. The LEDs would be arranged in the shape of the wave and flash in sequence giving an oscilloscope waveform kind of effect. You could even have a switch to change from a green wave and a red wave. It would be a lot cheaper, and smaller than an iPhone. I've been thinking about this for a while, I just haven't got around to doing it.

Hi Bmoore. Thats good to hear, when I am back at my printer (about the 22nd of the month) I will contact you to see if you are still interested. I need to get myself set up as a premium member here too to go through the correct processes for runs etc.


13 Doctor, I agree. The iphone/working display is a little much at this time, and would put the price out of whack if I went on to sell any. I'm interested in making a nice looking static prop for now.
