Custom Steampunk guitar

Not a prop, but a project that is taking me FOREVER. sigh.

I have a pretty good number of parts for it so far, such as the black walnut (from a relative in MO), the neck and the tuning machines. Haven't quite decided what my electronics layout will be, but I do know what materials will be. The thing I'm kinda waiting on is my graphic designer friend to get the pickguard's designs done so I can have it etched under an epilog... in the style that many rifles are done.

here's the general body design in autocad.

I'll post stuff as it goes, which might not be for a while. :cry

Cool, can't wait to see what you come up with. I've seen a bunch of steampunk guitars, and this one is by far my favorite:

Oh yeah, definitely mine too. Especially considering that's a real matrix plug prop they put into the gear area. (I read that on their site somewhere... long long ago)

Likewise awesome is the fact that all the gears are painted LEGO gears and pulleys. Those things are so useful.

Everything is great about that except for those horrible Blackout Pickup's. I guess they only have the desire to get one kind of tone.

It looks like it was originally a Jackson V (Randy Rhoads model?) so maybe those are stock?

Let me look for the blog of the people who made it... I think I have it bookmarked on my old inspiron.

to tide you over... this strat knockoff I've been quietly modding.... and am looking to get some passive EMG's for. The knobs were done in an extruder (I think the company starts with an "S". big tall white unit. kinda annoying because rather than the breakaway system it uses water soluble support solution) and the pickguard was done on the epilog I want the aluminum one for this one etched on.

Very neat. Never would have really thought of making a steampunk guitar. But then again, that's why Steampunk rocks. lol
