Hello. I have been a long time reader of the forums but this is my first post. I am in the market for a good Darth Vader helmet replica and am torn between the current efx Vader helmet and the Anovos helmet. I have read a lot on these forums about both helmets but I couldn't find a thread where people compared them together. So I am turning to the members of this forum who are much more knowledgeable on these things than I. Is there anyone here who owns or has compared both helmets together ? I know there are some very accurate non licensed replicas out there but I am working with a budget around $650-$700. I'm not a wealthy person so I want to get the best bang for my buck here while getting the best helmet possible within my price range. I'm not a large man either so I'm not going to be trooping around in the helmet really. I want a good display replica.
Here's what I know about the two helmets. The efx helmet has sort of a direct lineage to the original helmet from ANH as it was made using molds from the archives thought to have been made by someone in Rick Bakers shop so they could make the helmets for promotional appearances to promote the film. They no longer offer it in fiberglass, only ABS plastic. It has the red bubble lenses like the original helmet did. The Anovos helmet is based on scans of various helmets from the archives and is sort of Frankensteined together as an idealized Vader helmet floating somewhere between ESB and ROTJ. It is fiberglass and more padded on the inside with a better strap to adjust. It has a super glossy dome like the ESB helmet and they threw in some non accurate greeblies under the dome for show. I know the efx one is marketed as ANH replica whilst the Anovos is supposably a combo of ESB and ROTJ. In the prototype pictures they show the helmet with flat lenses though I've heard they changed them to the correct sized bubble lenses for production.
Both helmets look very nice but there seem to be pros and cons to both. I would ideally want one that is closest to the ESB helmet but if the efx helmet is closer to ANH than the Anovos is to ESB I am more inclined to go with the efx one. And I would prefer a fiberglass helmet to an ABS one because the original helmets were fiberglass. I'm very torn between the two. Is there anyone here who owns both helmets or has seen both in person who could give me their opinions or advice ? I know there is a lot of controversy about the Anovos helmet but from pictures and unboxing videos I've seen it looks amazing. I haven't been able to sit and compare every detail to any of the original screen used helmets. You guys are the experts so I am hoping someone here could help. Any advice or guidance you could give me would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for taking the time to read.
