Firefly fans - ever notice this about the theme song?

From the first time I watched the show, I loved the theme song. It sounded slightly familiar, and was so different for a sci-fi. The themes of the song ring true to my political pov's too so it sucked me in big time... I just love it.

Until today, I could never place where I had heard the song before. (or at least why it sounded familiar)

My 5th grader is studying the Revolution and as supplemental education I sent him to Youtube to look something up I remembered from my childhood.

:eek

For full effect to see if I am imagining a connection, refresh your memory and listen to the Firefly Theme:

Firefly [Main Title] - Firefly: The Original Television Soundtrack - YouTube

Then listen to this... starting at :18 the rhythm and notes start sounding similar and if you listen all the way through the chorus at :51 it is almost identical!

School House Rock Shot Heard Round the World America Rock - YouTube

I can't say that this was intentional or maybe whoever wrote or choose the song subconsciously connected the themes and the music... but I don't care - now I have solved the mystery of how I knew the theme.

:D

Doesn't surprise me. Everything borrows from everything and it's been that way for centuries. :)

Hell, you're national anthem is set to a British drinking song. ;)

Redcoats or Browncoats? Hahahaha I had the instrumental version as my ringtone for the past 3 years only recently changing it to Crocketts theme (on a Miami Vice kick again)

I think I heard that Joss Wheadon wrote the theme... And he's about the right age to have grown up with SHR. might have been stuck in his subconscious.

I believe it originated from the Firefly DVD set. Who'd have thunk Joss could write/play guitar/sing too?

Many creative talents cross over into each other in the same people - kind of like people who are good at math are also good at science... or several sports.
