It's actually more of a "proof-of-concept" video.

This is something that I worked on back in December at New Deal Studios - we built the cockpit set and shot the live action footage with the actress (Todd Masters FX did the suit and makeup).

The graphics on the monitors were not done in post - they were actually looped sequences on DVDs that were playing in real time as we shot it. The multiple little white indicator panel lights - done with strands of LED Christmas lights ;)

I know virtually nothing about the franchise (it's not really my thing), but apparently they intend to make it into a major motion picture.

More about it over on AICN:

it looks really great, by the way. Neat that the technology finally exists to realize those types of stories in photo realism. I know nothing of the subject matter, but will see this if I am able.

Awesome! The only thing I know about Gaiking is that he was part of the Shogun Warriors line :p

Love the visual of the starfield actually being the control panel. And there is nothing like preproduced visuals on real monitors ;) cost effective and IMO less hassle than doing that stuff in the post if it would be the only thing that needs to be done. :thumbsup

The only thing that bugs me is that none of the cars moved before Gaiking breaks through the street surface, that makes them look like toys (which they really are, I bet ;) )

Will definitely take a look at it once it´s finished!

Man I used to watch all the Force Five series: GaiKing, Grandizer, Starvengers, Danguard Ace, and Spaceketeers in the late 70s early 80s!

Personally I would have liked to see Grandizer over GaiKing- the stories seemed a bit grittier back then.

Not too sure how a flying rocket fist would go over with a modern adult audience though. :lol

I couldn't remember the names of the robots in Force Five so I looked up the videos on youtube. Seeing the Grandizer and Danguard openening videos brought back a lot of memories, and I agree with SSgt Burton that I would have liked to see Grandizer, hell even Danguard Ace over Gaiking, but I'll still watch it just for the cool factor.
IMO, nothing can be as bad as Robot Jocks was, so I'll take any improvement over that movie.

Holy crap. Wow. They're going to build the robots 1:1 size.

This looks amazing. :) I'll go see it if it's accessible!

I would have litterally crapped my pants had this been starvengers...

My fave by far of those old tunes!

DOUBLE HATCHET.... BOOMARANG!!!
