Short version of the story, I sold my proton pack a couple of years ago. The wife and I got a last-minute invite to a costume party for this year (2015) and the wife wanted to go in a "couples" costume -she would be a ghost and I would be a Ghostbuster. I still have all the other gear but wanted to have a pack to go with it.
Business travel got me home Wednesday night, so the build covered Thursday and Friday with us jumping in the car to head to the party at 7:00 pm Friday night. I have several fiberglass shells, parts I've traded for, and pack and thrower pieces that I make/sell, so parts acquisition wasn't an issue. For the shell I used a gorgeous V71 Mark X that's been calling to me for years.
The build -Thursday:
Cut the motherboard, sanded, mounted brackets, primed
Painted and weathered motherboard, cut and attached spacers and attached alice frame
Pre-drilled all holes, masked the shell and added texture
Primed, sealed and painted the shell -very happy with the texturing
The build -Friday:
Painted and attached (epoxied and bolted from underneath) the N-Filter
Epoxied and bolted on the injector tubes and lines
Started running out of time, so a lot of the picture taking stopped. Attached the bumper, shock mount, crank knob, ribbon cable (and clamps), clipart valve, PPD, filler tubes, booster tube and frame, HGA and split loom tubing (to name a few)
The finished piece
No more build pics
, but here's the final pack -acrylic lenses installed, ion arm mounted, resistors and tubing added and the whole pack lightly weathered.
There's still more work to be done, I need to attach most of the labels, I used the wrong diameter tubing coming off the cyclotron and need to replace it, and didn't have time to install the lights and sound.
I was simultaneously building the thrower but didn't get it completed -so used zip ties and electrical tape to temporarily attach my Matty Wand instead (I did some modest weathering on the thrower and added a hook so I could hang it from my belt).
I'm not happy with the weathering on the Matty thrower grips, so that will also get some attention too.
Thanks for looking!
