Going outside the box for Captain America and could use some advice.

First post here after lots of lurking. Hey all! I'm pretty new to foam work but I'm loving it so far. I want to get some more general experience before I try to make anything close to screen accurate.

I had an idea for a "riot gear Captain America." I'd like a mix of futuristic tactical and classic Cap. I have a modern military/swat helmet and I'm going to paint an A on it like TFA. I have black combat pants and boots from my high school airsoft days but I'm considering buying some blue pants to fit the traditional Cap color scheme.

I've been watching Evil Ted on YouTube and want to make something like his male armor but with a Rogers name tag. I'm not sure if I want black armor or something more Cap. I'm also not sure about my undershirt color, but I'll play around with it.

The shield is where I'm really excited and I need the most help. I want to eventually make a screen accurate one with a sled but not for this project. My dad is a regional manager for a plastics company and I can get plexi or polycarbonate from a scrap pile big enough for a shield.

I work as a theatre technician and prop maker and last year I made a bunch of riot shields for Billy Elliot. I want to make the round style shield with the classic star and stripes but I wanted the red and blue to be transparent and the white to he clear. Does anyone have any advice on transparent paint, especially with plastic?

Sorry about the long post, I'm really excited to start and just wanted to outline my plan. I'm also new to the forum so my formatting may suck.

Well, navy blue tactical clothes should be fairly easy to find. IIRC, the Navy has a blue digital camo thing going now, so you could even wear that, if you wanted?

As far as transparent paints go, I know the model paint mfrs. like Tamiya & Testors make colored transparent paints for scale modeling (car headlights, taillights, etc.), but that's probably be prohibitively expensive given the scale of your shield. There are craft paints intended to replicate stained glass that I think might be a better option.

Good luck!

Sorry for the lack of updates, school and work. Something like that, but I want the red and blue to he transparent also. I got some body armor made but not much else yet. Another project came up too. Will be getting back to this pretty soon though.

For your shield you might look at tinted adhesive acetate. I'm not sure what's available now but, when I was younger, there were Pantone sheets that were thin acetete sheets that had adhesive backings. You'd most likely have to be really precise with cutting and application to minimize the seams but, considering the area you want to cover, it might be an option over paint.
