Gravity Falls ----Stan's 8 ball cane

I decided to make Stan's cane from Gravity Falls. I made it normal cane height for a person. The cartoon proportions are different, but that can't be helped.

Yep. Easy enough prop. You need a 1 inch dowel, a brass "climbing tip" for canes, and the 8 ball with brass pipe/tube.
I got lucky and found the 8 ball and brass pipe already attached on eBay. The climbing tips I found only come in 3/4 inch, so
I had to taper the end of the cane to fit the tip.

Awesome. Big Gravity Falls fan here. One of the few shows my kid watches that I go out of my way to keep up with.

If that show were on when I was a kid, it would have scared the crap out of me.

I came across the cartoon by accident. It's really a smart cartoon. Each episode stands alone but also builds toward a greater backstory that indeed has MYSTERY. Having mystery and suspense in a cartoon is a rare commodity.

You can search eBay for "Real 8 ball cane handle" for this cane top. It's well made and already connected and polished.

I'm stoked about this shows success. I pitch toons as part of my living, and finding interest for a show with a seasonal story arc has been hard enough, but a show that is actually intense and potentially scary for kids has been next to impossible.

Thanks to this show, I've been about to pull out a couple of older ideas I've had that would never have had a chance before Gravity Falls.

Oh, and I almost passed on dressing for the Studio Halloween party this year, until I realized I could just grab my kid's Dipper hat, buy a vest and orange t-shirt, and go as Dipper Pine.

Great idea for a costume. I've seen the hats for sale.

Having one of the books would be super cool too.

Nicely done.
I've had mine for 15 years now.
My step dad hollowed out an 8 ball for use as a gear shifter in his 68 GTO.
When he eventually sold it, I repurposed it as a cane top on a whim.
I'm a Gravity Falls fanatic. Imagine my surprise when I first saw the cane in the intro.
My jaw dropped.
I'm new here and on mobile so can't yet upload pics, but here's a link to my Etsy store if you'd like to see pics of my cane.

Yours looks JUST like Stan's. Right down to the front facing "8"

Thanks.

Yes, your collection is interesting. You have items I wouldn't have thought of selling. And yes, I had to look carefully through eBay to
find a front facing 8 ball.

I have plans to do the BOOK #3 including a Shapeways brass printed Magnifier. I'm having trouble finding just the right size journal though.

Thanks.

All the ones I've seen are close but just miss the mark.

The Etsy shop where blank replicas are for sale is nice but they're way too thin.
I'm not a fan of redrawing from scratch either.
Imo screen caps and reprints is the best method.

With your skills, you should be able to pull off a convincing replica.

So far I've only sold one item lol.

It was a Love Patrol Alpha drawing replica.

What would you suggest I make for the shop?

Here's a pic.
It's my first ever prop replica. Even though it's ridiculously simple, I had to learn things I didn't know in order to make it and it actually sold, so I'm sorta proud of that. ☺

Since you do good paper props, then you should do all three pages from the three journals that make up the diagram of the "machine".

You bring up a huge problem. If I were to digitally copy all the pages and then have them professionally bound, then I wouldn't be able
to add any pages in the future. I could only have the book done AFTER the series concludes and I was sure they had revealed all the pages.

Or I hand write them and do the art myself, but I'm not really great at that. The advantage would be that I could add new pages as they are revealed.

I may just duplicate the outside and have it as a blank journal. And then possibly make a second one later with the insides done.

Nice one. My first ever Cosplay was Gravity Falls with my family last year. I had no work space etc. back then (I purchased a 10' x 9' shed for making stuff in since) but still managed a few self made props.

Really opened my eyes to the awesome world of cosplay and how nice everyone is. I am hooked!

Great stuff !! The Fez and Stan bucks are great ideas !! A hollow book would indeed be better for Cosplay. A real book of this size would be really heavy to haul around.
