I had sold this helmet awhile ago but the buyer asked me to finish it up and paint it for him. I started working on it before Dragon Con and refrained from posting until closer to completion. I apologize for the crappy pics though ahead of time! This thing was a pain in the butt and I'm glad to almost be done with it!! Hoping to complete it before/on the weekend though...
These are only a handful of pictures I took. Going to use a better camera when I finish it!
The biggest pain with this helmet is that it needed significant clean up. The visor didn't exactly sit too well against the helmet. Being annoyed by this type of thing I couldn't leave it like that...I wouldn't have been happy sending it off like that...so you'll see how I had to build up the sides a bit and you can sorta see where the original edges ended. My intention was to make the main portion of the visor appear flush to the rest of the helmet.
Base helmet
Visor attached
Starting to fill the visor gaps... (much more happened then this lol )
Cleaning...
Masking it off for paint...
And the interior visor as well...Not shown, but I painted the inside of the helmet a flat black to reduce the amount of reflected light behind the visor
Base coat of black and silver...
Toothpaste for masking some weathering..
With the first couple coats of OD green and some masking removed...I accidentally removed some of the masking where I shouldn't have just yet but I'll work around it!
I'll be adding gun metal highlights to the helmet and will blend the silver weathering to make it more realistic. Overall I think it's turning out pretty good so far....
Thanks!
