Harry Potter DELUMINATOR???

I was wondering is there anyone here who is building a screen-accurate prop replica of Dumbledore's deluminator? The main body is supposed to be a victorian perfume bottle, however whenever I check ebay for perfume bottles, I see very similar looking dark green GLASS bottles and not a single 'marble' one...

I would guess that the prop department didn't use an off the shelf unmodified bottle. The prop may well have been a glass bottle, with a vinyl decal wrapped around it to make it appear marble. Likely, it make have even been a resin cast, painted to give it that look.

thorskywalker,

There is a page in the Artifact Vault book that mentions the body of the deluminator prop was machined from malachite, which pretty much makes sense; if you look it up you will see that natural malachite has a very similar look to the actual prop's distinct green wood-like/marble texture. But they would have had to be very careful as I'm sure it's a very brittle material to work with. In some of the prop photos you can actually see what looks like cracks in the stone, so maybe they did actually break it and then re-glue it at some point during work on it. It's also possible they made many versions of the deluminator while filming so I think at least one of them may have been made of resin.

I actually bought a couple of malachite point crystals about 4-5 inches long to try and see if it was feasible to try and replicate my own. However I didn't get very far; I got discouraged because of a) the mess the stone dust created and b) I was afraid I couldn't find a way to neatly create the nine facets that were required using my tools. I might give it a go later if I think of another method.

Hope this helps, I also think it would be really cool if someone made an accurate version of this prop!

Thank you very much for the replies.. I guess the body is custom made 'based on' a perfume bottle but the end caps are definitely perfume bottle caps because I have come across many identical ones.. I am just surprised no one tackles this project and offers a run...

I bought one a few months ago off an Etsy page, called OldCuriosityBox. It was a real find, quite expensive but I believe it was worth it. It was the closest one I could find as far as caps are concerned, though they are in brass. All the other bottles I found with silver colored caps just weren't the same shape as the prop so I decided on getting this one. It's a ten sided barrel, not nine unfortunately, and I believe has a larger diameter than the prop version (I can't be sure as I don't have the Noble version) but I'm happy with it anyway.
Luckily this one was available in dark green!

I probably won't take this one apart in attempting my own replica; I'd probably try to make my own from scratch, headache though that may be.
