HELP! - Realistic SILICONE MASK recommendation needed!

Hi there,

Not sure I'm posting this in the correct area so if there's a better place for this thread to be, please let me know.

I'm looking for a recommendation on a good quality old man mask. I can't afford the $7/8/9k AUD price range that I'd be looking at for a movie quality custom appliance and think that there may be a few options in the $700/750 Australian mark that I've seen - approximately $500/$550 USD.

I have seen a few from various companies online but have no idea who's reputation is good or who would be best to go for.

There's a few areas of criteria I need to tick off...

  • Must be as aesthetically realistic as possible
  • Full head mask with neck coverage
  • Be durable and able to be used multiple times
  • Have realistic movement

This will be used to film some short stories to camera in a 'storytime infront of a log fire' environment and possibly in some live context. I'm not expecting people to be completely duped into believing that it's real, but I'd like to get as close as I can for the money.

So far I have looked at the following companies who all look to be (from an untrained eye) roughly on par.

Can anyone point me in the right direction?, my gut says Metamorphose or Realflesh but I have no idea if there's someone out there much better - please help!

Some photos of the styles I've been looking at...

Re: HELP! - Realistic LATEX MASK recommendation needed!

The masks you are looking at are silicone, not latex. Very different material. Finding a latex mask that moves realistically is going to be challenging. It doesn't move the same way as silicone does. Also, having a custom mask made can get up their in price. Even for latex masks as there is a great deal of labor involved. Latex masks with full neck coverage also tend to have bigger necks because they don't stretch as well as silicone. Latex can definitely be durable, but not quite the right material for super realistic lifelike.

Thanks Dreddful - my knowledge isn't great, it would be a silicone one that I'm after - thanks for the correction!
