How to create your own hero TNG cricket phaser, "picture intensive"

Hi stapleton13,

If I have done this right there should be a picture of a TNG Cricket Phaser toy I have in my collection just above this.

It was made by Galoob in 1988! Are they even still around? And the price sticker reads $6.99! Well you have to figure it's old just from the picture on the package, Tasha Yar holding a Dustbuster Phaser standing next to a beardless Riker who's holding a stick of gum......sorry I mean Cricket Phaser! (Man do I hope the picture above is there or I'm going to sound like an idiot!)
This toy has sounds and lights similar, I think, to the Playmates phaser!

It reads...
*Phaser Light Beam
*Electronic Phaser Sound
*Intensity Control with Readout
*It's a real working flashlight, too! (Oh Boy! Oh Boy! Oh Boy!) (Sorry, I'm getting tired)

Mine is still sealed so I have no idea what these features look or sound like!
So what I was wondering is have you ever tried to use this type of toy in your resin Phasers?
Comparing it with the Playmates toy it is slightly shorter about the same hight and a lot narrower! Obviously it's the size of the internal parts that would be the most important!
Anyway I await your response with anticipation!
Now to submit this and see what we can see he he! (Sorry still tired)
Later all, Petseal

Hello again,
I have a picture of the back of the toy package and I thought it might be of interest to someone so I figured I would post it too!
The only thing I need to figure out about this pic thing is getting it as big as is allowed. There both a little smaller then I would have liked!
Anyway, GOODNIGHT, Petseal

so what is the price for a hollow kit?

i dont have a toy phaser yet, but if the price was right on the hollow kit, i might pursue a toy for it on evilbay.

Hello, Lan-Ed-Tul,
If you go to "evilbay" and do a search for a user named "killmenow0" you will find he has three Cricket Phasers auctions, one being the hollow type.
I believe the hollow version has a start bid of $35 and a Buy-It-Now of $40!
But take a good look at the resin parts pictured!
Having done resin kits now for many years I can say without fear of contradiction that this is one of the cleanest, sharpest castings I have ever seen!
I had decided some time ago when I first saw this sellers stuff that I would buy one eventually or when I had the cash to spare, whichever came first!
In case you did not catch it earlier in the post stapleton13 and killmenow0 are the same person! And now that he has shown what can be done with his little model I can't wait to get one for myself!
Best to All, Petseal

Re: How to create a your own hero TNG cricket phaser, "picture intensive"

Hi all

Petseal was right on nose with the price. I'm still too new to the board to offer anything here.

I am glad you like the look of my castings. I spend extra time on each one to make sure the flaws are kept to a minimum. I vacuum degass my resin before using it, and all my pieces are pressure cast. Even if the phaser has one or two stray bubbles. They are always on the inside of the phaser.

Now the first question about the galoob phaser. I have never tried to put one of these inside my kit, But I do know that the sound on these isn't that cool. It sounds more like a generated tone than a recording of the cricket phaser. The playmates version has the best sound I have found.

Hope I didn't miss anything.

Hey stapleton13
Didn't know that about the sound! Actually I don't know much about the Galoob Phaser at all. I was looking for one I had seen at a show, but didn't buy :cry I came across this one on eBay years ago and thought it might be the one I was looking for. Not often I'm right but I was wrong again! :confused
Anyway, I was seriously considering opening the one I have, putting batteries in it and checking it out! Now I think I will leave it just the way it is!
Thanks for the input, Petseal

Oh, don't sweat losing the Galoob phaser at all. It was the biggest disappointment a wannabe space explorer kid could ever have back in the day - too big to hold, looked only vaguely like the "real thing" and sounded like a sick sparrow. You ain't missing much. :p

Hey Kaylee,
Sorry if I was unclear but I didn't lose the Galoob Phaser.
The one I lost looked to have been a 1/1 scale Cricket Phaser that came carded! I found it at a Michigan sports card show about 20 years ago! It was shortly after TNG came out!
The plastic clam shell cover had come off the cardboard backer board! They had then stapled the cover back in place and then asked some crazy price!
When I found the Galoob version on eBay it looked the same and I never thought to ask about it's size!
Oh well, what can you do?
Thanks for the reply Kaylee!
Talk to ya later, Petseal
