How to Latex and Paint a Mr. Incredible Suit - Huntorial

Greetings all.

Seeing as this forum has given me so much and my own Pred costume, I thought I'd give back something.

So, here is a huntorial on how to Latex and Paint up a Mr. Incredible Costume. This is just what I did, and I'm sure there are other ways of doing it, or better ways and better paint jobs. But I've not seen a full Huntorial on it, so I thought I'd give it a shot.

Things you will need:

1) A Mr, Incredible Muscle Suit:

2) A Dummy of some kind, could be a self-made Duck Tape one or whatever. I used a half-one from ebay, with upholstery foam to help fill in the arms/legs.

3) I used about 4 Litres of Liquid Latex, but you might need a little more. I payed around £10 per litre from Hobbycraft.
4) Acrylic Paints
5) Latex Thickener
6) Cotton Wool buds
7) PVA Glue
8) Masking Tape
9) Paint Roller & mixing bucket-type-thing.
10) An air brush of some kind
11) Liquitex Gloss Medium & Varnish OR PermaWet

Firstly, put your Mr. incredible suit inside your dummy. The Nobbly things on the shoulders are just cotton Wool Balls of different sizes, PVA glued to the top, then latex'd with the rest of the suit.

Start by mixing the Liquid latex with a small amount of white acrylic paint and latex thickener. Paint-Roll it onto the Suit.

Make sure you cover all the parts you need to, and make sure u get under the arms and crotch area. Let it cure/dry and make sure the under bits dry too.

Do 5-6 Layers of the Liquid Latex mix. Notice I've only latexes the parts that will be seen. Saved cash, time and painting (plus makes the suit more breathable).

Onto painting! First, I did a yellow layer. Please note, all colours were Mixed using Acrylic Paint, Liquid Latex, Liquitex Gloss & medium varnish & small amount of water.
After the Yellow layer, which I allowed to drip (looks like veins) I started the orange layer.

Started the dark brown layer in the recesses of the muscles and across the top. Also added some basic random spots.

Seeing as the back won't be seen much, I just did a basic paint job on it. PLEASE NOTE I accidentally latexed my whole zipper. DO NOT DO THIS!!!! I did clean it up. Use masking tape if you have to.

And your done!

Awsome. This is a great help to me.
I'm new to the forumns by the way.
I plan on spending the next year building a pred costume and i ahve a ton of qurestions, this answered one of the big ones, thanks!

Quick question, how long does the latex take to dry on average? i know its gonna take longer the thicker the coat.

thanks

Cheers guys

I've updated it SLIGHTLY, added '11) Liquitex Gloss Medium & Varnish OR PermaWet' - which is required if you don't want your paint chipping off and a glossy wet look.

The latex I usually let cure overnight, though if u use enough thickener and a hot room it can take a few hours.

Any one know where i can purchase this liquid latex? or any brand names? i searched google... and well got a lot of body painting sites but nothing like this... is it the same stuff?

Cheers guys Makes me feel good that it's helping people.

Brandon, you can often get Liquid latex in Craft and Hobby stores. hell, i wouldn't be surprised if WalMart sells it.
