Issues with Epitome AD - Short Round 1922 NY Giants Baseball Cap

Nice job! Really creative with the logo out of a baseball card. You do the pinstripes yourself?

Had a ST Voyager Medical Tricorder 3D resin printed by him thru TreatStock. Just got notice it's been mailed this evening. Cost jumped from initially $17.00 to $57.00 and took over 2 months. Will wait to see if I get get it as the USPS number supplied doesn't track.

Update
Received the resin print and to be quite frank, wasn't worth the money he request. Not TreatStock printer services fault.

My solution to this was to buy a blank cap from the Ideal Cap Co. Unfortunately they seem to have gone out of business with the death of the owner. (Edit:there is a 7 1/8 on ebay right now). Anyway, if you can source a blank cap the trick is finding the patch. I had no luck finding a Mets logo in blue. I ended up finding a baseball card that included a encapsulated NY Giants patch. They aren't expensive, but it does require destroying the card. I think it might be slightly small, but not by much, keeping in mind its sized for my head, not a kid.

I had the same idea in mind for the OP.

probablyjarrett If you live in the NYC area, there’s a place called Stitches that can do custom jerseys and possibly caps as well. They do the lettering/numbering for the local sports teams. Stitches website

You’re could also just contact them and see if they can mail your request.

I hear you on the short brim. But it seems to me that SR’s screen version is still different as it has only four stich lines, compared to six lines on the 1928 that you posted. Not sure if that means the 1928 has a shorter brim or that the stitches are less spaced out than the SR screen version. Also the pinstripes placement and width on the 1928 are a little different from the screen version. Which brings me back to, I guess the only way to get a screen accurate version is to have someone replicate it?
Yes, but consider this. SR’s head is a lot smaller than a grown man’s. So there naturally wouldn’t be as much space on the brim for the extra line of stitches because it’s smaller than the game used brim. That said, I’m referring to the size of the brim relative to the cap it’s attached to. Also, the actually game used cap has less space between those lines and accordingly can include an additional line. And SR’s cap is a close replica and not an identical copy. I only presented the game used one as a reference as to what the TOD costumers probably used.

Yeah. I get it and agree100%. But that just goes to my point, if one wanted to do a screen accurate replica for a display or whatever, one would (or I would) want it to be a kids cap to replicate the prop. I’ll hit Stitches up and report back. Thanks for the tip

So I’m working to replicate SR’s hat. I found this Bronx Giants hat from Ebbets which is very close. The color and look/feel of the wool are spot on in my opinion. It has the same number of stitches on the bill as SR’s (4). SR’s appears in certain pics to have a slightly longer bill but this doesn’t bother me as it appears shorter in other and a 2” bill is I think more accurate to the era caps. The biggest discrepancies (other than the logo obviously) are that SR’s hat has 8 panels and this one has 6 and the satin green under the bill needs to be removed.

I also found a cap for the Chicago American Giants 1914. It has 8 panels instead of only 6 like the Bronx one and the stripe spacing is a little better closer to SR’s. Unfortunately the color is grey and can’t be dyed without losing the stripes.

I’m considering taking the Bronx one apart, removing the green satin and adding two panels while cutting down the other ones to size. Thoughts?

Lightning, you mentioned that you found the logo for yours in a baseball card. Could you direct me to where I can buy one?

Anyone ever deal with this maker or company? I hate to finally be someone to complain but he had this awesome Short Round hat up for almost a year ago. I purchased one and the preorder end date keeps getting pushed back and back. I've contacted him and gotten a few sporadic replies. Just asking for an update and his replies are generally variations of this mishegoss:

"Sorry things have been crazy I will be posting updates on the news page and I will also I need to update the pre-order purchase list and several other things I've just been super swamped and trying to make changes to the website has been slow lately and as well as we still need a few more orders for the hats in order to get the run completed but I may just pay for those out right just to have them because they are popular but if you know anyone that wants a hat please encourage them to come by there's only a few left and remember they can get any size they want as long as they let me know because they will be manufactured to the specifications that I give when that time comes and the manufacturing process should go faster because they've already done these for us once"

Kindest Regards, ~Alexander Mengel

It's far too late for me to put a dispute through Paypal and I DOOO want the item. Just looking for support. Cheers!

I heard he scammed a lot of people.
I can only say that I actually DID receive the hat but it took about a year. I was one of the lucky ones who got in on it super early (2017 or 2018) and only paid about $35. It took about a year but I got it and got it in the right size to fit my head. The hat is pretty decent and close enough (although I imagine Magnolis new one to be better once thats out). But I will say the guy threw in a free autograph from Jonathan Ke Quan himself who he says lived nearby in SF and received a free hat and offered to sign a few free autographs for everyone on the first run and I got one autograph. Is it real and legit? I dont know. The guy did send a picture of Jonathan Ke Quan signing the photos we got and with his free hat. But who really knows. Needlesstosay, I got lucky for getting the hat at all and even if the autograph wasnt legit, I only really expected and paid for the hat, but I cant defend him if he ended up scamming others.
I guess it happens when people have good intentions at first, then they either get forgetful or just plain greedy. I guess years later he hasnt cleaned up his act. Sad...
The hats in good shape and just a decent display piece for now but Im actually planning on having my wife wear the hat to SDCC this year as Short Round.

Glad you got it. Can u post pics of the hat?

Well… obviously it’s terrible about the scamming, but I have to say that looks really good. How many panels does it have and how many stitch lines on the bill? Just curious.

Appears to have 4 stitch lines on the bill itself that are visible. It's not bad for what it is. At the time I got it (close to 5 years ago, I think), it was probably the best and closest you could get unless you made one yourself. It might still be the case currently from what I've researched online and searched for so far.... until Magnoli does their run, that is.
I feel for those who got scammed. Even years ago while I was on this run, I was worried it would never come and did have to hound the guy multiple times before he sent it out to me and sent me the Jonathan Ke Quan auto with it. But fortunately, I only paid $35 at the time so I figured if I did lose out, it wouldnt have cost me too much. I know a few people got theirs besides me back then also. Its unfortunate hes so unreliable now, from what I hear.

Unfortunately not. There's also several other threads that call this guy out unfortunately I didn't see before my problems. Word to the wise is to do research on here and then save the scammer threads. They're constantly changing their names. The good ones anyways. Well... not good... you know. some even were very highly regarded here for a while and then at some point they just ghost people or never provide status updates and years go by. Luckily my credt card company gave me back the 80 bucks or whatever it was. Hate to tell you you're not gonna get whatever you ordered from them. If it's under 6 months i'd go thru your payment company. Don't even try the maker. Sorry bud.
