looking for a custom voice changer

I'm looking for a voice changer for a costume and I'm wanting some sort of, sci-fi effect on it, not just pitch alteration. Would the Arduino work for that? I've used the Velleman voice changer soldering kit but it isn't what I'm looking for.

found this, might be a good starting point but by the looks of it its quite bulky so may not be suitable components for a costume or helmet.
