Here's my latest project: the N7 Hurricane from Mass Effect 3.
Sort of commissioned by my daughter to compliment her many play through's of the Mass Effect games.
This is what it is supposed to look like:

Build commences! As usual made mainly from bits of scrap wood...

A step up for me though was a bit of planning ahead and heavy use of the router to get a smoother shape.
And finished

Just a couple of points/minor fails:
#1 I attempted to use heavy duty foil to "veneer" the ejection port to be nice and metal looking. Although it went on smooth the glue seemed to crease it. It looks much better in real life than the rather creased look in the pics.
#2 To remove all grain effect from the wood I coated the entire piece in fibre glass epoxy. Although mixed correctly it never seemed to set properly and gave a horrific orange peel effect. However much sanding (clogged paper) and filler later the desired "no grain" effect was achieved.
#3 I was pleased with the weathered effect for the top half of the gun: I made a a couple of good coats of a gun metal acrylic then a light coat of matt black. I used 0000 grade wire wool to "wear" off the black and in RL the effect is awesome!
#4 I am looking for better barrels. These are plumbing bits and are too short - ho hum!
