MR Falcon Questions

I bit the bullet and bought an MR Falcon. BUT, I saved some money and bought one from AJCollecting on ebay. It arrived yesterday, and having not seen one outside of photos before, I have to say how incredible this model is! I love it! I had no idea just how heavy this beast is! It looks great! The paint job is good, and the construction is very satisfactory.

Anyway, I have two questions for those who have one of these. First, I got mine cheap (a relative term) because AJCollecting was selling it without the stand. I can make a stand to hold it up. Question: What kind of connections and power pack would I need to fire up the lights without an MR stand? It must be possible, but I don't have any paperwork to know what it originally came with. I DO have an MR Enterprise. How do the Falcon connections compare? I tried plugging the Falcon into the Enterprise stand...no luck. The connections seem to be different as the E stand jack would not "snap" into the Falcon.

Another question: I noticed my Falcon has the graphic on top of the cockpit, just behind the middle window that is normally seen only on the 5 foot filming model. I have not seen this graphic on any photo of other MR Falcons, and I was wondering if anyone else has it? I looked closely at it, and it does not appear that it was added later, there are no decal outlines.

Thanks for the help!

Hi Rick,

You just need to buy a standard 1/4" mono jack from Radio shack as well as some cables which can be connected up to a battery pack which outputs at 9 volts.

Regarding the graphic on the cockpit - this has obviously been added by the previous owner of your Falcon. You do realise that ajcollecting sells all the "returns" which get sent back to MR for whatever reason? I would say that the previous owner added the decal, applied some clear coat over it, but then opted not to keep the Falcon in the end. I added the same graphic to my Falcon because I wanted it to represent the ANH version.

Cheers,

Chris

Thanks, Chris. I'll be heading to Radio Shack today.

You must be right about the graphic. It had to be added later.

Hi Rick,

Yes, it was definitely added by the previous owner because the version MR released is the ESB model.

You don't have to connect it up to a battery pack - you could also connect the mono jack and cables up to a transformer which can then be powered from a wall socket.

Cheers,

Chris

Got it. Thanks again! Of course, I may go through all this only to find that the lights could be the reason it was returned in the first place! If so, it still is an awesome model, and I am glad to have it at a reduced price.

Chris is dead on,

You got a returned moldel that was actually owned by one of our own member. I will feel sorry for the person that will get my crappy falcon I returned to MR, unless he gets it for less than $1000

I was aware that it was a returned model when I bought it. It was, I felt, the most affordable way I was able to get one (TRANSLATION: I have a wife. Don't get me wrong, she's the very best. In fact, I would be broke if not for her!). I really did not care about COA's, or a mirrored base, etc. I just wanted the Falcon. The paint job on it is not all that bad, and I will touch it up to make it better.

I wondered if it was previously owned by someone here. If that person would PM me, I would very much like to know why he returned it. Outside of the fact that I am curious, I would appreciate knowing more about this model. It's not like I can return it. I don't want to. Actually, buying one like this makes me less concerned about what it takes to improve it.

So, if you are the one who returned an MR Falcon with an added cockpit graphic that was resold by AJCollecting without a base or COA, I would like to hear from you!

Thanks!

Rick

Can someone tell me the diameter of the mounting rod for the MR Falcon base?

Thanks!

I won one yesterday from AJ collectiong, but it doesnt have a base. could someone please give me the dimensions? I was considering getting a mirrored piece of Plexiglass centered over a piece of black plexiglass but leaving a 1/8 lip around for a cover.

And the power cord, it goes up the rod with a small spring? Also, the stand isn't centered is it?
