My Rubie's Supreme Darth Vader Costume Alternations Info

Got this costume this past March at a nice discount price. Already have a Rubie's Deluxe Vader Extra Large costume, but really wanted the more authentic version. the foam armor on the Deluxe one is just to flimsy and can easily crease. Since we had the finances, was able to buy the Supreme. I got it in XL as well. Wife and I feel that the Large wouldn't be quite big enough for my chest.

Did find out that the waist/crotch/legs of Rubie's Supreme, were a little to wide for me. Had the waist/crotch taken in and the legs shortened up at a Tailor Shop. Next, will have the legs taken in a few inches so the jumpsuit doesn't bunch-up at the top of the boot/shin armor (I do tuck the Jumpsuit legs into my Black Side-Zipper Pirate Captain Buccaneer Boots. Also have to have the cape hemmed up.......it IS long!

Rubie's has the straps for the Chest Box going thru holes in the jumpsuit, but have learned that the Chest Box straps are to go on/around the jumpsuit. So, had the two bottom holes in the jumpsuit sewn up and have adjusted the Chest Box to go about 3 inches below the Collar Armor.
For my old Deluxe Vader costume, ended up buying the Two-Piece Molded Adult Mask. However, that mash is too small for the Supreme Costume and will, with some extra foam padding inserted, where that with the Supreme.

The Deluxe costume had an all-painted rubber Chest Box sewn into the costume. Removed that and bought a nice all-electronic Chest Box off of e-Bay for $99. On this, I control the slot-lights and two square-lights lighting sequences. When one silver switch is pushed down, it is Vader's Breathing. Next silver switch is Vader/Earl Thomas Jones voice lines. The red switch is for Voice Changing using a mic that installs in the helmet (never installed or used........couldn't get my voicing correct. I wore this Chest Box the last two years, but because of surrounding noise, the Vader Voice and Breathing couldn't be heard. The Chest Box, that came with the Supreme, lights up, but has no sequence changing switch or the other things just mentioned of the e-Bay Box, however the large helmet does have Vader Breathing installed on it.

I also have the FX Vader Lightsaber.

And, one other thing, bought a Cooling Vest online, to wear inside the jumpsuit. Might install grommets on each side of the jumpsuit zipper for ventilation.

So, this is what wife/I did, and doing, to this Rubie's Supreme Vader Costume. Actually, even with the alternations having done, we think this costume is terrific!
Wife has the Female Stormtrooper costume. We bought white Go-Go boots and a sturdy full-size helmet for her. Her Blaster came from Toys-R-Us.

Oh, and BTW, I was 28 when ANH came out in 1977. I'm now 67 and wife is 68. IOW, long-time Star Wars fans!

Any recommendations/ideas are invited. Thanks!.

Do you have any pictures you would be willing to share? That could help with other peoples ideas over visual reference:).

Sorry, Alex no photos of the new Supreme costume yet. Won't have any until after Halloween, when I where it.
As far as the Deluxe one (don't wear anymore), I done a number of things to improve it's looks, including black gloss spray paint and clear lacquer.

The Supreme is just having some sewing alternations done on it. As far as we are concerned, Rubie's done a great job putting this Supreme costume together. It's not 100% "authentic" looking, but close enough for us. Love It!!

OK. And Im now thinking of buying the supreme edition of Vader's costume because of this review.

Just remember, Alex, this Supreme costume ISN'T cheap and doesn't include lightsaber or boots. We got it in March and saved some $200 on it.
And, in Rubie's ordering policy, is you buy from them, if bought in October, they absolutely will NOT accept any kind of return.

To us, it's an impressive costume, but to you it may or may not be.

Yes. I will definintly keep that in mind. And I know it isn't cheap but I've heard from many people it is a great buy regardless of the price, so I figure its a go for

Just be sure, as much as possible anyway, that you measure yourself to get the right size.

Alex, if you do decide to get this Rubie's Supreme, please let me know. Perhaps I can give you some suggestions about it.

Well, think I've had most of the alternations done. I ordered an XL, which was fine for my chest and shoulders, but not so much for other parts of the costume. I'm 6'1", but had to have the legs shortened and taken-in a little, crotch area taken in a little and cape shortened by an inch or so. This was $140 worth of work done by a local Tailor, but looks worth it. I know we sure couldn't have done this sewing work! Have some excess jumpsuit at the top of my chin guard, after that is put on, but if I have that taken-in, think the area would be to tight for me to sit down with the costume on.

Other than installing a some grommets on each side of the jumpsuit zipper, as already mentioned in a previous post, I think this costume will be fully ready for Halloween. I sure hope so!!
