Sometimes, tragedies strike during vacations and one must return home with a heavy heart and nothing to do. Unfortunately, this describes the turmoil that occurred to me over the course of this week. As a result, I’m currently in shambles, but I need to keep myself distracted for some time. So with that, I’d like to present a Christmas-themed thread (as I’ve learned the easy way, sourcing costume parts can take some time). With Christmas a little over a month away, I’ve decided to get into the spirit by examining Chevy Chase’s getup in one of the better Vacation movies (and possibly one Chase’s funniest ever).

The hockey mask is just a classic Cooper HM6 (of which an aluminum copy was worn by Lord Humungus in Mad Max 2):

Found the boots:

While there are no great shots of them in the film, you can tell that they are a version of the 1964 Sorel boots by looking at the scene where Clark hits the gas. While I’m sure these aren’t the exact model, they sure look the part from the photos I’ve found and certainly seem like something Clark would wear. THe hockey sweater is not hard to come by.

The red Santa jacket - to me - appears to be nylon; almost like a wind-breaker customized into a Santa jacket.

Even if I'm off-base, it still appears to be a pretty custom costume...
