Here.

We.

Go.

The plan is to get this thing as close to the tv version of negan's bat from the season finale of the walking dead

Here what I used

- the bat was unfinished when I got it, had to trim it and sand it down. Had to re shape the end as well.

I bought a few different types of wood stains. Also bought staple shaped nails to hold the barbed wire on the bat.

And here is the bat trimmed and sanded.

I noticed on the tv version there is a black oval...which I am assuming I'm the comics is the outline of the Louisville slugger logo. I painted it on... didnot really like it. Here you can see the bat stained with the painted on oval.

I ended up sanding off the oval and using a sharpie

Nice. This may be my next prop. Been wanting to make a walking dead prop and I think this is it.

I am using real barbed wire... to me if you are gonna do it... you gotta use the real stuff.

The bat is finished. I will get a pic when I get home... real barbed wire is a PAIN to work with...ahaha surprise. And of course it snapped back and sliced my hand.

So COOOL! Can't wait to see a pic. I'd like to take one on myself. Any tips on what size bat to use? Thanks in advance all!

I found an image of negan standing by the group with the bat on his shoulder... used jeffrey dean Morgan's height to try and scale the bat... came extremely close to 32.5 inch bat. So that's what size I went with

Bat #2 is happening!

This time a different type of wood for the bat to get the grain patterns closer, also a member gave me a few more pics I had not seen so I am also using a different stain color.

Can you give me some specifics on the new bat? I found the raw bats on ebay I am guessing your using.. I dont know what wood/ length/ or profile turning style to select (if applicable) also any chance you could share the pics you were given.. and your stain choice.. Sorry not trying to be a pain but your first bat looks A+ and I'd be impressed if you planned on improving upon it as I want my own.. Im gonna cosplay negan at my upcoming con... Oh... and Steven Yeun is going to be there.. You can breathe. You can blink. You can cry. Hell, they're all gonna be doing that.sifZR.jpg[/h]

ok, lets see...based on an image of vegan, I scaled the bat at 32.5 inch. for the turn style...well I chose a different turn style each time, they don't really look different to me.

The stain is actually 3 different stains. I will have to look when I am home. I started with one coat of stain #1, then 1 coat of stain #2, then I mixed stain 1 and 2 together and applied that. Then I took stain number 3 and did a final coat. I will get you the names.
