New Floquil color pallet coming.

Giving a heads up to the model communities.
A company called MCW paints, will start producing the old Floquil color pallet next month. These will be in enamel like the originals. Anyone who builds Star Wars models should know that ILM used Floquil enamel paints during their run.

Update- I've been informed that the old Floquil colors were lacquer based. MCW produces both enamel and lacquer paints so maybe we'll get a choice? I'll try to get more information.

The palette is meaningless if they don't match all of the properties of the paint. You can already get color matches, and the amount of variation from original Floquil can't be nailed down; F was never consistent batch to batch. The paint adhesion and pigment properties that everyone misses from Floquil rely on these being lacquer, with the old Dio-Sol thinner on top of the Xylene base. Huge health risks...

Safe to say, we're probably not getting Dio-Sol or Xylene variants.. MCW have made lacquer & enamels for a long time. The model car world loves them.. I thought it was exciting that we're getting the old Floquil color pallet.. just wanted to share

Floquil paints back then were lacquer-ish dio sol based. Not enamel. MCW will be duplicating Archive-X’s effort but will be more toxic, being enamels. Archive-X is now acrylic.

There is a demand for enamels & lacquers. Archive-X decided to stop producing enamel versions. I have read numerous posts on the acrylic version not working well. So, another company is stepping up to fill a void in the market.

I don't think they "decided" to stop making laquers, they can't get them made in England because of new environmental laws.
I have had zero issues with my Archive-X acrylics, so far.

Good news about the new paints though.
Fair enough. It was EU or UK law that prohibited the manufacturing. Some people seem to use the acrylics ok, some have extreme difficulty. Myself, the only acrylics that worked for me are Tamiya due to the alcohol base rather then water. I've never had an issue with lacquer or enamels.

I have the entire line of Archive X acrylics and they are great color matches for the original Floquil paints. But, I would love a company to reproduce Floquil lacquers, as I still think that lacquers are the best for primers and base coats, with enamel washes and acrylics for detail and weathering layers. Besides, my supply of original Floquil paints is slowly diminishing and I would like to have some modern lacquer replacements!
