Paintball Helmet #2

My first helmet was built on a gutted JT mask. It sucked, but had a nice crest. I now use a proto switch. The next helmet will be a full coverage helmet. My nick on our team is "Agent-K"
I saw something about someone using milspec rope as dreads so I went to my local surplus store. I found some rope that had a gorgeous tiger stripe banded coloring. I have more pix, but am on a borrowed pc atm.

The crest and mouth are made from toilet paper rolls, the cheeks are made from hot glue. The dread rings are bits of scrap leather in my craft bin. I tried to use similar but different colors for effect. The underhelmet was aquired after trying MANY helmets. It is from a child's army playset containing a molded radio, canteen and helmet. Fits perfectly!
Since my tag is "Agent-K" I felt the K on the crest was appropriate. ;)
It has worked incredibly well so far, but was done in a hurry for an event. I have another model i am working on for the next one. Larger crest made of foam or sheet plastic, so it is water resistant. This one stood up to many hits! I even used it this weekend as well. It has a proto fan in the forehead that keeps it unfogged when added to the thermal lens system. I love the comments I get when wearing it on the field. May be using it at a haunted house the next three weekends.

Next I cut the dreads from rope. I wanted them long so they would also give me some protection from the paintballs. I hotglues one end and formed it into a point. I flayed the other end out to give more surface area for glue bonding. I sanded the helmet to remove the shine and rough the surface for the dreads n glue to stick.

Next I started the crest, just to see how this would look. I won't do this again, but as soon as I find the person with the original idea, I will give him props! I love the way his looked but wanted to do my own thing. This was more for the fun of doing it. His is WAY better IMO.

Following the design of my first crest, I did paper. Knowing that this would only survive one or two weekends was cool. I didn't have the helm I wanted, nor the materials, so I did this quick build for the event. The next build will be a full helmet with lots of goodies and a foam crest that is weatherproof.
On the first crest, it was built up with paper towels n glue. I didn't want this one as bulky, so I limited buildup. I cut paper from toilet paper rolls, paper towel rolls and the box from a 24 pack of cat food. Hey, ya scrounge for what ya can. ;)

After the paper was on, I sprayed olive drab flat paint onto it. I love the shredder look. I am a medieval enthusiast and wanted a dragon scale appearance. The Predbuild I am working on as my personal build is a medieval era predator. His back story is that HE was "Saint George" the Dragonslayer. His outfit will be made from chainmail, which I make, and medieval armor remnants, if not armor throughout time,... gladiator pieces, and such. His armor will have "Dragon" scales and the crest will have scriptic glyphs that look like the word JORJ hence, the locals calling him George. On this one I put the "K" for my paintball tag.

I don't have any creation pix of the mouth area but will take one of it after some wear and tear, literally.
For that, I used lowtemp hot glue, so as not to melt the pb mask. I covered the mouth with a paper front, then started gluing around it. I wanted the organic look as this will be on the next mask. Doing it this way allows me to peel it off when I need to. The glue bonds but not so bad that I can't remove it and reglue it when needed. Later, I will make it removeable by velcro. The helmet is mounted by drilling holes in it that line up with holes in the pb mask. Black cable ties hold it together. This weekend I picked up a fan made for this mask by the company from our field. It worked AWESOME at clearing the fog. I needed one as I have covered the vent holes everywhere with SHTUFF!

As I said, I knew it wouldn't survive long. The paper extends or DID extend below the mask, making it vulnerable and in the way. it gets tossed around a lot as well, into/out of my gearbox...

Finally, here is the fan, mounted inside and the cable ties holding the front of the helmet on. I can just reach the button for the fan, (inside the grey ring). The white look of the crest is where I messed up! On the last day, I tried to seal the crest with a matte sealer. It came out white and KILLED the paint job I worked so hard on. Fortunately, the whole thing still looked decent.
I'm in the process of moving to a new house where I get a two car garage as my shop. The house I was buying, had to go back. After I made it liveable, the girl wanted to double the price on me! By April we should be moving to a new location. My website (that was commercial) is now just a personal site. I am removing all the stuff for sale, so if u visit, please be aware of this. I am not selling stuff, but will be posting all my pred and paintball stuff, and hobby stuff there. Should be really cool when redone. You guys are awesome! I thought I was a major predfan, but watching you over the past few years, I bow at your feet. I'm glad to be back and hope to be worthy of joining you at a con or two.

Question----- I may find it on this site, but has anyone created a FONT of pred language? I know there are some numbers, but I am looking for letters. Downloadable preferably.

Kick me a message anytime on any subject, especially YAUTJA!

The last two weekends have been awesome! I am wearing the helmet and holding one half of the takedown glaive. The area i am in at the Haunted Trail is the Toxic Dump. It is an industrial area. I jump out at people then follow them to a doorway. I rake the glaive on the wall ditracting them so the next person can jump out. I would have to say, almost every group that goes through, someone recognizes and comments on the "Predator" helmet. Some funny responses,... "The Jamaican Paintball Guy" and a "Bob Marley Motorcycle Helmet" This upcoming weekend will be the last of it, then will have to rebuild it. A lot of damage getting tossed around in the gearboxes.
