QMX Enterprise revealed!

It is pretty cool, but I can't even imagine how much it will be if they are charging a G for the raider.

Hopefully the Raider has been a learning experience and further such props will be priced a bit lower down the scale.

I still wish that someone would figure out what scale this ship is in.

I'm trying to set up a a 1/650 fleet (it'll take me the next 20 years i'm sure) but I'd rather spend money in the right direction.

If somebody at Comic Con can ask them point blank, try to find out what scale QMX thinks this model is. :lol

The size of the Abrams Enterprise has been a source of debate for months, with estimates ranging from 1000 to more than 2500 feet long.

The largest estimate would make the new ship bigger than the 1701-D of TNG and the 1701-E of the movies! A monster. But I actually don't mind, since canon is out the airlock already on this one, so whatever. :lol

Great comparison and analysis, phasepistol.

The large interpretation just feels wrong to me. Feels inflated.

I wonder if they even considered this in designing the ship? I like the ship, regardless. Would be great if it made sense though, too. :)

Puts the Playmates right in scale with the Hot Wheels TMP.

Galaxy class problem; TOO MANY and TOO BIG windows!
I remember seeing a picture of the big silicone mold being pulled at ILM, and was like, what's up with all the 5ft. windows??

wow guys, sometimes i just laugh. These guys announce that they are trying to do a high level prop replica and nothing seems right from u guys. From...its not really made in the USA , to sagging nacels etc. Does any one have something nice to say????

I loved the movie, loved the props ( or almost lack of them ) and loved the ship. IMHO!

Aquaman: while I concede that we're a contentious bunch :lol we're certainly no worse that certain Star W*rs fanatics. :rolleyes

"Sagging nacelles" however is an unforgivable problem. The old Unobtainium TOS E had this problem. Sagging nacelles make the ship look really stupid. :angry

On the size comparison, I should point out that I neither made the chart nor wrote the analysis. But I do have my own opinions on the matter. :D

Basically I think the ship was conceived to be the same size as the TMP ship, which to these guys, is the "original Enterprise" to their way of thinking. Certainly the saucer section of the Abrams ship is nearly identical in broad strokes, to the TMP saucer.

The problem comes at some point during production, when somebody decided the ship needs to be bigger. So retroactively the overall size is jacked up. Probably to accomodate that humongous shuttle bay and the "brewery" Engine room. :eek

Also as Bernd at Ex Astris points out, there's that giant wrecked saucer in the debris field when Enterprise drops out of warp at Vulcan. These effects guys are playing fast and loose with scale and proportion (but then again, it's always been that way, so nothing new there - it's art, not engineering).

2500 feet fits what we see on screen better, even if it does cause logic problems. There's supposed to be a Haynes (the auto manual people) "guidebook to the Enterprise" coming out, which should settle the issue. Or has anyone read the new Cinefex, there should probably be a mention in there.

i get all that, but it just seems that sometimes u guys don't give any one a break! I mean it is entertainment, not engineering. Yeah, i know the star wars guys are pretty picky too, but again, this is created as entertainment. I guess I just love the entertainment aspects and am very happy with even my MR pieces. I think the QMX thing looks awesome. IMO

I guess I'm accustomed to much harsher discussions. I didn't think this thread was all that negative or bashing. :)

Aquaman, I am with you in that I loved the movie thoroughly and I really like this Enterprise. If you guys would take up a collection for me, I'd happilly have one of these QMX replicas in my possession.

It is also sort of the nature of these boards, though, that we talk about how we feel about things. For me, determining the proper size of the ship is interesting and helps complete the fictional world in my mind. I'm glad the filmmakers made their choices based upon what would make for a fun movie, however. THAT's what will breathe new life into this beloved franchise. Not the tiny details that we agonize over. :)

If I bought one of these, I'd get the "battle damage" for free.

My wife would take one look at the price tag and she'd apply all the "battle damage" herself. I may even get some of the residual damage.

Deflectors up, Scotty!

She canna take another hit, Cap'n.

:)

:lol Let me guess.... you'd get a "You bought WHAT????? How much??????"

All kidding aside, I do own the MR TOS Enterprise -- and my wife was very supportive.

As much as I would love the new QmX movie Enterprise, I simply have no room to display it.

Beautiful piece, though...as is their upcoming Firefly/Serenity ship.

I am usually quite complimentary and it's true I like alot about what they've shown so far, but the sagging nacelles do suck big time for a high end collectible.

I don't think anyone really complained about this model. As a matter a fact, the majority stated that it looks great.
I pointed out that they fixed an error on the nacelles that was seen on their earlier prototype.(That's not a complaint, that's actually a compliment).

Aside from that, the only gripe is the pricing.
