I'll be producing a mirroring thread on our Blizzard Force forums, but wanted to get something going here too.
We're learning a little bit as we go along, but the Art of Solo book has quotes from Glyn Dillon about the developments.
Key things:
- Duster/parka is made of Sheepskin, inspired by Russian military garb. Is it all one piece or is the kama portion a separate add-on?
- Actors were much taller, said to be over 6' tall (this falls inline with the descriptions that they were suppose to be a more "hardcore" snowtrooper, according to Glyn)
- Boots had a steam-release practical effect, which worked in tandem with lights as actors too a step. The boots were at least 105 pieces, required an instruction manual to be build by the prop builders and the 2 canisters on the rear contained the steam/water (?) not too clear there.
- Helmet. Not much to add here other than that earlier "reference" depicted the visor as having a center-recessed detail, however, latest reference clearly show it is just a plain, gold/solar bronze colored visor.
What we lack currently:
- Reference. Right now we've only got decent front-body reference, we need better backside reference.
- Gloves- I believe that these are off the shelf gloves, possibly either heavy gardening or possibly even beekeeping gloves. I say this as looking at the reference it appears that the gloves have an extended cuff. Appears to be a softer/lighter leather/lamb or sheepskin type glove. upper palm (just below where the fingers start) is an added strip of material for reinforcement. There's an additional strip running through the center of this as well.
- Pants. Doesn't appear to be anything significant, however, below the thigh plates, it looks like there may be a pre-existing pocket, which makes me wonder if it's off the shelf as well.
-Fur- It may be low hanging fruit, especially since how we know the costume builders for Game of Thrones operated by literally taking rugs from Ikea, cutting them, dying them and throwing them onto the actors. This appears honestly no different. Ikea continues to sell rugs that appear nearly identical in terms of fur length/appearance. It's my idea, at least for replication, to acquire enough rug material to use for the collar, and kama liner (to include the inner parka sleeve cuffs.
-Chest: Clearly inspired by the original snowtrooper chest, lower side portions appear to secure through a slot in the parka (along with that hose detail). I surmise that the shoulder straps are the same as seen for the mud-trooper (or not) as they're not seen.
- Back plate: Currently only best reference is the toys. It's clearly a shore/tank-trooper style back, but sticking through the back of the parka.
- Abdominal/Cod: The main ab plate (not the belt "buckle") appears to be one piece, with the cod hanging off the bottom. This is all sandwiched by the belt and "buckle" with a very similar snowtrooper ab disc, and pouches. Cod does not extend over, unlike the original snowtrooper cod.
I welcome further discussion!
