Recommended Fan Films to Watch.

Now, as I've mentioned, I was the set photographer on a fan film. Since the fan film was released yesterday, it got me looking over several fan films that I've seen in the past, fan films that I would more than likely recommend to anyone who is interested in fan films. I mention these particular ones because they stand out to me in a particular way. If there are any fan films you guys would recommend to others, feel free to post them here.

And now, onto the recommendations (in no particular order):

1. The first one I suggest is from Blinky Productions. Everyone here has probably seen the "Mr. J" series, or some of the other fan films he's done. But, the one I'm posting is actually not really a "fan film", but more like a "fan film trailer" for a video game I myself have played. Blinky Productions did this teaser trailer as a means of hoping to acquire the film rights to this game. Granted, the casting selecting isn't great, but I think it sticks true to the game's story and style. Ladies and Gentlemen, Final Fight.
Note: I also recommend the other films from Blinky's channel. Normally, I watch I'm Powergirl, Dammit! just for a laugh.

2. Now, there's honestly not a whole lot of fan films based in the re-imagined Battlestar Galactica universe, despite the massive amount of room that's available. In fact, there hasn't been a whole lot of new RIS BSG fan films since SyFy (back when they were Sci-Fi) held their Videomaker fan film contest. I'm not sure how many here know of it, but for the contest, some "stock footage" from the show, some background sound effects and music were provided for people who were going to make and enter fan films into the contest. Now, there are many good ones I could recommend from this particular group (though a very short list). Though the dramatic ones were okay, I've decided to go with posting a comedy, called Whatever It Takes. Also, there's an extended edition of it available.

3. Now, when it comes to this next one, Hollywood has always gotten the story wrong. In fact, the closest thing to getting the world written by Richard Matheson correct is a non-related movie called Stake Land. This simple fan film for Richard Matheson's I Am Legend does a better job at playing along with what Matheson created. This fan film is in two parts, and definitely something I consider worth the watch. The channel has a couple of other fan films.

4. Before he did Jason vs. Freddy vs. Ash, Trent Duncan directed another "Vs." fan film called Jason vs. Leatherface. If you haven't seen this one yet, I recommend it.

5. Now, I know a lot of members of the 501st Legion know of this one. To be honest, I'm not a big fan of Star Wars, but some fan films for this story universe tend to impress. The fan film I'm mentioning here is called Makazie One. I came across this fan film because back at Megacon 2010, the guys who made it hosted a panel on low-budget/independent filmmaking that I sat in on.

6. Now, this one is one I like better than the still incompleted Escape from City 17. Beyond Black Mesa does a great job at capturing the grungy style of Half-Life 2. The production quality is pretty decent, for sure.
Note: As an honorable mention, apparently a member of WETA's digital effects department has created an amazing digital Half-Life 2 fan film teaser trailer. I do hope this does get off the ground. It's called I Am the Freeman.

7. Okay, I haven't played any of Fallout, so I can't say much about my opinion on if this fan film captures the spirit of the games or not. But Wayside Creations, the people currently behind Backyard FX, created Fallout: Nuka Break. It's impressive what they've been able to done. And thanks to this particular fan film, we probably got a few new members here at the RPF because they saw Zack's props video which included one of our member's Pipboy kit.

8. Warriors! Come out to pla-yae. This one is a fan film for the 1979 classic The Warriors called The Warriors: Nowhere to Run. Honestly, the production is slightly good. Not much of a plot, but I think style wise, the fans can sit through it and enjoy it.

9. Now, we all know what to do: Do not get them wet, don't feed them after midnight and that we're not to expose them to bright light. But, a noble fan, who was fed up that there was nothing special done for the DVD release of the second film for the (real world gag), decided to do one of his own. Ladies and gentlemen, Gremlins 3 (or Alternate fan sequence for the DVD)

10. This one is kinda hit and miss. But I got to give it at least a B for effort. Family Guy + Doctor Who = Doctor Stew. I'm posting the second episode. After watching the first one, I can't say the first one is at all interesting.

Okay guys, don't be afraid to share any fan films you'd recommend. :)

I'm normally not one for fan films. I find them painful usually and turn them off rather quickly. Having said that, I like Batman: Dead End. And all of the How It Should Have Ended series. There are the Star Wars classic fan films that worked like Troops and George Lucas in Love. I'm sure there have to be others that aren't painful to sit through, I usually don't seek them out though.
