Replica Shotguns

I'm new guys, try to excuse if I'm beating a dead horse here.

Has anyone had a decent amount of experience making prop shotguns? Mad Max, Joker, Book of Eli?

I'm trying to find cheap toy shotguns to make look realistic for some people for Cons and Halloween coming up.

Ive seen the "Dollar General" have decent $5 double barrels that I myself have been eyeballing for an Ash (evil dead 2, army of darkness) build. Its not that its actually a "good" toy shotgun as much as its nearly the ONLY toy shotgun that looks like anything resembling a shotgun. (at least that ive found)

The old "its nerf or nothin" ad line has taken on a new meaning these days. Literally, the toy store departments carry purposefully-misproportioned orange disasters, or nerf.

Hard to believe just 15 years ago you could roll into a toys R Us and get a toy rifle with wood and metal parts...

Check out airsoft "boneyard" sites. You can get an airsoft shotgun dirt cheap if you don't mind it broken. Airsplat.com or eVike.com are pretty good

Thanks.

I've seen the Dollar General ones. There are some pretty decent ones at Rose's (if anyone remembers that store, we still have one here in Griffin, GA). I just got a boneyard airsoft Remington 870 copy that arrived. It doesnt have a barrel though, trying to figure out a way to make one. I imagine I can use PVC pipe, but I'm new to this and don't have the "art" chops yet.

Also, thought of making a mold of my real Mossberg 500 barrel and cutting the replica to fit it. Considering it wouldn't be a real one, it might work for looks. But I'm also still brand new to casting.

Anyone used fiberglass much to make their replicas from molds?

Had an airsoft 870 body, I used an alum baseball bat handle for a barrel. another thing that worked was finding a good sized pipe then wrapping fibreglass around the rear end and then mounting the part on a drill then using sandpaper to smooth the taper just right.:)

Dude, that's great. The fact you wanted to taper shows good attention to detail.

with the bat, I imagine you hit it right as the taper started?

I cut it a bit short. but was able to figure out a mounting system:)

Oh yeah.. Hi. Depends on what you want...Ebay has some replica double barrels for around $150.00 US Dollars, Evike is good for the Mad Max if you like airsoft. I have seen threads where some guy have build Rem 870 from mild steel

I went down the path of making my own Mad Max shotgun. Did some gumshoe work and ID`d the hero as a Boito brand shotgun, then went hunting for second hand wooden parts, safety and triggers. Found the exact match for the grip and exact chequered pattern for the other part, used PVC tube and other scratch bits for the rest, Its the most accurate one ive seen and was fairly cheap, you can apply this to any shotgun you want.

I just copied the original from the few screen grabs, know nothing about guns. If you mean the little lever on the top, its made out of wood.

Thats great but this is basically an accurate toy that was scratch made from mostly junk, its all heavily glued together and is for display and my costume, pretty much what the aim of the thread was about to my eyes.

If you look at the second picture there is a fabricated pullback latch.

Holy crap? is that a termie shottie? For 10 bucks man spill the beans on how you made that baby! looks great! :D

Just like FishinWithGuns I'm looking for some good sources for shotguns. My first zombie box had a good receiving and I was thinking of making some more for friends. But I want to step up my skills and make some shotguns for in the case instead of my M1911 silencer combo that I have now, so any help would be appreciated :)

The barrel is 1/2" EMT the grips are balsa and the body is urethane foam that I sculpted, resined and filled/sanded scuplted/scribed.

I do still make these BTW.

best,

Brandon

@ Demetrius: Where did you made the mounting system from???

Im sorry, do you mean how I mounted the barrel to the shotgun or how or if I made the underbarrel M4 mount? in any case I did not build the mounting system. it is a G&P copy of the knight's Armament Company "Masterkey". The shotgun barrrel mount on the muzzle end that connects the barrel and magazine tube is made from a block of aluminum.

Cheers!

I did a Hicks shotgun out of a cheapy water blaster if that's of any use. Just filled it full of plaster so it was heavy and prepped and painted it up.

Basic but great for cosplay / display.
