Resident evil afterlife throwing stars.

Ok, so I saw these online for sale and wanted them right away. Unfortunately it's christmas time and I don't have a lot of money right now. So i wondered if I could make them out of wood. I have lots of that laying around. Here's what I came up with...

First thing I did was go online and find a picture of them. I found out the dimensions and got my template. As you can see it was just a matter of tracing, cutting out with a jig saw and a lot of dremel work.

I wanted to do a plexiglass cover just like the ones I say for sale and had a sticker made of the RE logo. The base was just a matter of what I thought looked good to me.

I made my stars out of 1/4 inch poplar and the base out of 3/4 inc mdf. So my finishing bolts were 2 inch for clearance.

After er a little primer and paint there we have it. My biggest mistake was using an oil based paint for the stars. When I was mounting this with the 3/4 inch bolts after 4 days they were still wet and I kind of messed them up a bit, so I'm going to sand and redo them. But other then that the whole project cost me about 20 bucks for the glass and bolts. The rest was just stuff I had laying around the house. Hope you like!

Very nice looking. If you have a place to spray i'd go over the stars with a primer to seal it good and then silver spray paint. Actually once you seal them with primer you could even brush on silver model paint if you're good at doing it by hand. I love the display.

Good work :thumbsup. A good example of how replica props need not be expensive to make :D

So I've had a few people ask me for the picture I used as reference and sizing. The stars are 4 inches in diameter. The picture I used is here...

If anyone makes these in steel I'd love to see.
