Ricou Browning (1930-2023)

So sad. I saw, a few months back, that his family was asking for people to send cards to cheer him up as he was in failing health. I messaged his daughter and told her I lived a few hours away and I would love to come take him to lunch, but she said he probably wouldn’t be up to venturing out. She said I could stop by and hang out with him if I would like. Sadly I went on a trip, got Covid, and never found the time to set up that visit. This will be one regret I will carry forever.

Something else admirable about this performance:
The Lobster House, where the Creature kidnaps the girl in Revenge of the Creature, was a real place in Jacksonville, FL. The shots from the POV of the restaurant, looking out toward the river with a skyline behind it, were almost certainly shot at the tank at Universal---but there are location shots facing the restaurant where he climbs out of, and jumps into, the water.

Raw sewage was piped into the St. Johns River in those days.
Here's to ya, Rico.

Last of the Universal Monster legends has gone to the tiki lagoon in the sky. What a sad loss but glad to have his work with us still forever.

And let’s not forget, Revenge of the Creature was Clint’s first movie.
