Star Lord Mask Set on Amazon

Since there seems to be a fair amount of interest in Star Lord masks I thought it would be fitting to start a thread about this newly available option. I noticed that this mask on Amazon this week and that it looked pretty interesting.

I've been researching different mask options, and while Helagak has released some great files, I thought this might be an option if my buddies 3D printer doesn't get working in time. It arrived in the mail yesterday and I can definitely say it's children sized, it definitely looks a bit silly on my big head. But, it still might be a starting point if the forehead and chin get extended, and sides get put onto the mask.

I may as well post the link to the gun as well, since there seems to be some interest in that as well. I was thinking of using the small gun that comes with the mask as the leg rocket, maybe with some modifications to it.

Hey Kosko, I'm pretty new here on the RPF but i have images of what your suggesting... from the toy mask to awesome all with craft foam and paint.

yeah the whole thing is glue and craft foam. here are some images of it un-painted. if you haven't held on of the toy masks they suck and are very small this method will most likely only work for smaller sized heads. photo 1.4.JPGphoto 1.3.JPG

What's the primary color of the helmet? It it black or just a really dark gray?

more of a dark grey

It's hard to give a detailed description of all the pieces, but here goes. There's the mask (duh) with lots of other random parts. the sides and back panel out of craft foam, making them curve and round-out with strategic folds hot-glued into place. added some pieces of leftover garage sale signs to give it a different texture and the tubing up to the ear pieces is made of that rubber-foam-y sunglass strap stuff and some bendy straws. The eyes are lit up with energizer book lights (fit nicely into mold of the mask); the eye pieces are made of clear plastic (from an action figure box) with red cellophane wrapping paper and a wire mesh tea strainer. Then added some x-acto scoring marks and some other foam pieces to give different layers. A bunch of random stuff really can look cool all put together; Glued everything, primed it, painted it all that metallic dark silver, then brushed on some other spray paint for the gold/bronze and pewter/silver. Scratched on some extra pewter/silver on all the edges to give it the worn look it would get with normal wear-and-tear. The inside is ugly as sin due to the gobs of hot glue and random foam to keep from rubbing the face.

I agree with jrenemtz321, it looks fantastic. So I can see if it would fit me, could you please measure the height from the top of the original toy mask to the bottom, and the distance from the eye holes to the bottom?

Hey Kingpixels, the standard mask out of the box with no mods is from the top to the bottom 6" and from side to side 6.5" which sounds very small, and it is but if you build on to it its not terrible. i'm not a small person and its enough to cover my face minus the forehead which gets a add on piece anyway, the lame part is the if i open my mouth my chin is seen below the mask, not a big deal to most but bothers me slightly.

Wow, that looks like a really good way to do the mask then. I wonder if anyone can figure out a way to solve the chin problem. Maybe it could be extended downwards somehow.

i was thinking about cutting of the stock breather canisters and adding my own larger more screen correct to add length to the bottom of the face.

Looking great guys! I did a similar mod for my Son's Star-Lord costume. I'm not nearly as talented so I didn't get quite as screen accurate as the one above. My Son wore his costume to the Hollywood red carpet premiere a few weeks ago and we got his helmet autographed by James Gunn, Zoe Saldana, Benicio Del Toro, Michael Rooker and Bradley Cooper. This photo of my Son with James Gunn was actually used in several news articles about the movie. :)

What I did was I used a pair of $12 sunglass lenses, took them out of the sunglasses, drimmelled them down to a smaller size, then used Apoxie sculpt to hold them in to the eye sockets of the helmet. Then after the sculpt hardened, I flexed the mask and popped them out. Then I super glued them back in (once the sculpt hardens around the lenses, it fit the shape of the mask better).

Because this one has all of the autographs on it, I'm working on a 2.0 now and am going to try to make it more screen accurate like yours above. :)

Good luck!
