Hello all,
Wanted to start my own build thread, even though I have now completed construction of this model and I’m in the painting stage.
My model is based off all the fantastic Dave G files, which I 3D printed. Aside from that, this model uses the true vintage L’eggs domes, MDF board for the wings, brass and copper wires, and Revell’s Saturn IV cans instead of the much more expensive Airfix ones. I was worried the Revell kit (only $20 each at hobby lobby on sale) wouldn’t fit the nacelle cores right, but they were near perfect to my eyes. For the greebles, I bought the files to a Y-Wing on CGTrader, and I have been cutting up and printing the crucial greebles to put on top of the skeleton of the Dave G files. Then I have supplemented that with around 35% of my own greebles, totally from scratch or from kits that I felt conveyed the spirit of a Y-wing. I still need to paint the pipes, add decals, add blue on the engines, and give it all some more weathering.
Hope you enjoy the pics of the build progress! Would love any suggestions or insights. You can see more on my Instagram, @armoryofalbus. May the force be with you!
