Not going to lie, Terminator 2 is my all time favorite movie. So I
decided a while back to throw together a T1000 costume. Seeing as
hes one of the most badass villains ever, but my personal favorite. The
way he presents himself early on his characteristics seem
normal/humanlike, then once he has John Connor in his sights, all that
goes out the window and it is almost like a rage. The cold, angry
stares give him a memorable eerie performance. Not to mention he is
almost virtually indestructable, and one of, if not the most menacing
ever. I chose the costume he changes into later into the movie after
he kills and steals a motorcycle officers patrol bike. To me it was
always badass and stuck in my mind very well (The mirror
aviators/liquid nitrogen scene to be exact). This one however took a
good deal more effort than the basic police officer Robert Patrick
portrays most of the movie, but in the end was worth it. It also fit
better because my frame doesn't really match up with Robert
Patrick's at all. First of all our faces/hair don't really look much alike.
Secondly, I am around 6'0 or 6'1 and I am guessing he is around 5'9 or
so. And last but not least I go to the gym frequently, seeing as it is my
number one hobby, so I have a much stockier build than him. But it
works well with the motocop costume because underneath the jacket
you can't tell exactly what my frame is. Oh and underneath the
helmet/glasses, you can't exactly see my hair/face. I wish I had known
about this website before, I could've taken pictures of my progress
putting everything together, i.e. the bullet molds/helmet
refinish/airsoft paint/police attire/gear etc. I missed DragonCon, but
got a lot of chants and cheers this Halloween. I had a ball. I figured
you guys are my kinda crowd and could appreciate this costume I
made.
I threw this picture in to kinda show what my face/body looks like.
Nothing at all really like Robert Patrick.
My friend helped me with these, they actually were from a rare kit that
was made just for T1000 bullet molds. Once molded, I cut holes in the
jacket and secured them in. The reason for the cuts is because if I had
simply attached them to the outside of the jacket, they would stick
out more and obviously look more fake.
This is a close-up of the badge I used. It looks a lot more legitimate
than the original I used(it was a mold from the T1000 mold kit). It isn't
exactly what it was in the movie, I think that one was Gold. But the
scenes in the movie were dark and hard to tell, plus the silver badge
goes along with the bullet wounds a lot better. Its not exact, but at
least it is LAPD branch like in the movie.
These are the patrol pants/pants I used. The boots are highway patrol
boots with laces just like in the movie. The pants are pretty much
exact. They are LAPD highway patrol pants. The signature is the silver
pinstripe seen running the length of the pants.
This is the police belt I wore along with everything. It is called a
dragon belt. They are known for the double buckle. The add-ons I
picked up separately. From left to right, its a double magazine pouch,
a working police scanner, handcuff case, nightstick holder, left
handed(just like in the movie) 9mm holster, and a pepper spray pouch.
You never actually see a complete view of his belt, but these items
are what I have gathered from watching T2 a LOT.
Here is an original picture of the helmet, before refinished. You can
see the unwanted vents that came along the top of the helmet. I am
an OCD person, so I was not going to settle for this. I removed them,
then we filled in the holes with bondo, thoroughly smoothed it over
with sander, smoothed over with primer, painted with white paint,
repainted with a gloss clear coat finisher, and thats all she wrote.
Here are the finished pictures:
As you can see no more vents. The finish turned out nicely, it looks
almost exactly how it would have been factory made had it came
without vents. The badge isn't exact either, its just a replica that I
found and attached. In the movie, the badge was gold like the jacket
badge. However, like before it was dark in these scenes so therefore
it was hard to tell. The silver goes along with the bullet wounds/silver
aviators nicely, but I do intend to find a gold badge to replace the
helmet badge with. The gun is a 1:1 scale HK MP5 gas powered airsoft
gun. It looks and feels legitimate. It is actually pretty heavy. In the
scene where he transforms into the motorcycle cop, for every scene
he is equipped with an MP5. It was heavily used in the helicopter
chase scene. The other is a 1:1 scale Beretta 9mm airsoft gun. It
wasn't exactly used in motocop scenes, but it was the T1000's
preferred pistol of choice throughout the movie, and it was holstered
in the motocop scenes. I feel like since he didn't use it at all that it
wasn't actually operational. Once again I am OCD so I couldn't let the
tips of the guns stay the color orange and look childish. I was a little
skeptical of painting them black, but I wanted this to be as legitimate
and memorable as I could make it. Luckily, I didn't get into trouble
though.
Here is a picture of me right before going to the costume contest. As
evident I left the jacket slightly unzipped and wore a white undershirt
just like he wears in the movie. Also, I went as far as to print out a
Polaroid photo of John Connor to ask people: "Have you seen this
boy?" It isn't the exact picture used in the movie, but it is a more
obvious photo of John. In the movie, the T1000 uses what looks like a
Yearbook photo of John. The photo looks to be from when he was 6 or
7 versus 10 like in the movie.
This picture was with one of The Rise Guys radio crew Jeff Louis Neal.
He was dressed as Bane, obviously.
This one was with another one of The Rise Guys Mattman. Both
pictures are dark and blurry, but when your cameraman is drunk, what
can you do? Also the fkn flash made the aviators look dark.
This picture just goes to show the place was PACKED. They had to
force a waiting line to get in.
Heres a full body picture of my costume, finally. Once again
sorry it is hard to see, the flash wasn't on this time. All the pictures
were taken from a camera phone unfortunately. Also, the radio station
took lots of pictures with an expensive camera, but didn't put them on
the website. >=(
Last picture. Still kinda hard to see because its just from an iPhone.
But I posed it up for this one. Anyways, I ended up winning the
costume contest with 1st place. I got $500 cash and gift certificates
to various restaurants. I missed DragonCon, but got a lot of chants
and cheers this Halloween. It was a very fun eventful night and I plan
to attend more contests/DragonCon next year. Thanks for viewing!
Feedback greatly appreciated!
