OK, I've been a lurker for awhile now and also a purchaser of fine products made by members here at the RPF.......

So, now I might as well start threads for all the kits I've bought here and a few other things on my mind.

We're going to start off with..........THE BAG......
As we know Guardian's of the Galaxy was a great movie and Marvel just can't lose. I was and still am a comic collector and seeing how they (marvel) as a company can make incredible movies. I'm glad to see them doing it within my lifetime. Being a comic junkie in this day and age and time.....IMO a great thing. It reminds me of being a kid again....well a big-Ger kid now........

With the help of you illustrious people here on the forum I present my work in progress star-lord bag.......

The storm 2'' Scuba D-ring.......

So far it's found leather I could cannibalize.......basically trying to make it as functional as the screen used. The leather will eventually be replaced this is my prototype. I found a great deal on some. Found a company that sells scrap leather from funiture makers. Sizes range from 3 foot square to 5.....Or, I might go the wild game route. Found some elk, deer, bison for sale. Gotta love living in the desert. Lots of hunters down here.........

......then all will be stripped and stained to match. This is how far I got so far so I will be posting as more progresses.

If I get time later I'll post the weathering I've done to the rivets, rings and buckle.

If I have enough cash in the next 2 weeks I might purchase more fabric from the wonderful Soulinertia and make 2 more bags. Gotta love the minimum from makefast and the multiple bags of rivets and such..........

OK.....progress.......the rings are weathered as well as the 10mm rivets. the short strap is officially done. I also brass plated the buckle as well as aged. Not too much tho. Debating on either rusting it or just using paints. Then it will be sealed. The D-rings were heated to almost red hot.....then dropped into a metal bucket with moist coffee grounds. Preferably used one's.........

Next to brand new SS......

The buckle brass plated an then I used some paraffin wax and a dirty brass cup brush to get the hazy look. Then rubbed clean with a paper towel. This is how it turned out. Looks like bronze......

The strap. And a blurry pic of the difference between regular 10mm gold rivets and weathered. This one was the easiest. Just take a regular Bic lighter. Hold the rivet up to the flame. Let it turn black with soot. Wipe clean. That's it!........

That's all for now folks. Waiting on some more rivets and some snaps........I had a quick idea and I'll see if it works out with the next update......

OK, quick update. Leather ordered......16 square feet. More of Soul's wonderful fabric ordered........
And now......pics....

The first few are top and under shots of the long strap. This was made to fit me specifically so it will look a lil off. Especially the shoulder strap.........

The whole strap.........

and now a little Frankenstein mentality......this was sitting back looking over my pile of clips, snaps, rivets, grommets and what not......
The initial thought of the trapezoid shapes riveted on......well...kinda had me stumped for a minute. After searching high and low, spending hours upon hours over a screen to find nothing. I sat a looked at my pile and a light flickered on. If I was a costumer for a major motion picture. Had bins and bins and bins of accessories. Why can't I use one from this and one from that.........and boom....problem solved. The 10mm raised flat rivets, the male end. Fits ever so nicely under one of the 12mm flat round claw caps....Eureka!

Now we have that nice overlap.......

So as of now, problem solved.......a few more idea's with the next update! TTFN!

Nice ;) thanks for the progress photos. Think I'm going to start my bag over xmas. Have all the parts

Update time......

So...I thought I clicked on 16 sq. feet but I clicked on the 10 sq. It really doesn't matter. I found out each bag will need 7-8 square feet of leather. I loved the texture and I will be testing ways to darken it a bit.

First is the scallop test.

Over......

and under........

8mm real leather cord........Took 6 weeks to get........

Layout test 1......most of the components together....

Layout test 2........trying to figure out the flap.......and my zippers finally arrived.....

Now that I have everything, I understand the need for the large strap. This thing will have some weight to it. The bag will be great for daily use. The next challenge will be making the the smaller loops for the rest of the D-rings. But the biggest challenge will be the pleats. Gonna try a few things before using the scrap leather. Yes, the pleats will be leather as well.....Then I need to find a liner.....thinking satin. Gotta check my reference images for color. If anyone knows what shade, I will forever be grateful. Thinking a purple-ish hue.....

So far the grand total for material, accessories, tools and other shenanigans is $275....yeesh. Now I know what all you costumers feel like. But it's well worth it, I think. I feel a sense of accomplishment even only going this far. Keep up the good work people, Y'all lit a fire under my *****.....

Stay tuned!!!

i'll post more progress pics on xmas........buuuuut i had a little mishap. while I was staining the leather i had a drip.......and it landed on the light fabric!:facepalm Da-OH!! still working and the whole thing is clipped together. now i hafta wait for more fabric to arrive before i can finish......:wacko

Update time.......

First is a stain test. I really like how it brings out the detail on the leather. Going to go a little darker as well......

Next the main part of the bag......going to weather more as well......

Next a few shots of the bag clipped together.......

coming along nicely......started to stain all the edges of the straps as well. And i'm weathering the straps with a little water and ash. These pics were obviously before. I'll put up more later. Also the liner is bought. Black satin. Enough for all 3 bags. As soon as Soul ships my other orders I'll start those as well. Next I'll see if my pleats hold up......then the final sew......TTFN people!!!

Quick update. If I finish the bag today i'll post pics tonight. But I'll be leaving for Florida at 4am. So we'll see if that happens. I really want to get it done so I can take it with me to break it in. First is the liner. Already sewn to the 2 main parts. I found out you have to at least have partial done since the layers would be too thick for my machine.

this next one is everything laid out. All the loops are made and stained........

And the final flap.......still need more stain......some trimming........

So so so so close.........

I've also decided to leave the pleats out of this one.....I have most of them made and patterned all of em.......again this is the prototype. Now that I know what to do on the construction, the other two will be as accurate as I can get them. This one will more than likely go up for auction. You know where.........Just to at least get my cost back. Then that will fund the other 2 bags. Found the accurate leather and color as well but it's a little more pricey than the one I got for the practice bag......Also waiting on the wonderful Soulinertia for more fabric and hardware........take your time dude. I know your busy.........

Well I got down to the final sew......buuuut I shattered 2 needles an ran out of thread. I was goining to go to wally world but I looked at the clock. I had 2 hrs before I had to leave for my flight. Decided to get some rest. The good news is that ill be done when I get back from Florida.........this has been a very tedious first build. But I got through it......better than I expected. So I'll put the pleats in when I get back to actually make this a complete bag........

Thanks for watching.....TTFN peeps.......time to enjoy my vacation........
