The Shining "Gold Room Bar"

Every year at my University (MICA), we throw a huge Halloween party by decorating our Main Art building in movie based theme. Last year was Star Wars and I was commissioned to build a life size R2-D2 with a projector mounted in the head.

This year our theme was The Shining and each room was decorated as a scene scene from the film. The gold room was chosen and I was commissioned to build the Gold Room Bar, or at least the light boxes and glass shelves that define the room. Just like last year I had a tiny budget and only a few days to make it, on top of that, a fellow student moved some of my pieces prematurely and broke them! SO a rebuild on the last day had to happen to fix some bad parts.

I will also add that screen accuracy was a difficult task with this build. Both the budget and size restrictions caused a lot of issues.

DAY 1

Began measuring and cutting wood from custom plans to fit the room/tables

Day 2

Frame construction and fitting/gluing paper. As you can see I've building a 3 column version to fit the mirror wall I will palcing in front of in Main.

Day 3

Fitting the bar on the table and wiring lights. 6 house bulbs hanging on clamp light fixtures. Here's a shot of the room being finished on the day of the party. The walls need some tweaking but my build is complete!

Ahh i didn't! I was only in charge of the bar, someone hand painted the ballroom sign

Yeaah I found that staring at from a foot away was making me way too critical for a party prop and when I viewed it from past the bar it was fine
