Hey guys,

Long time reader first time poster. I am going to be attending my very first Comic Con. It's the NYCCC! I'm really just looking for some good tips and or tricks for cosplaying Spider-Man specifically. I own a Spidey4fun suit, so I'll be wearing that. Any tips for staying cool in costume? Also how do you guys go about using the bathroom? Do you suggest changing when at the con? Any tips or experiences you can share would be greatly appreciated. I think this thread belongs here because I'm asking about a specific costume.

Thanks guys! :)

I went to many Comic con and events here in Montreal, wore my Spidey4fun costume for over 4 hours at a time, its very comfortable and not hot at all, I hope you have a face shell and not fabric directly on your face, I recommend a face shell mostly for the look but will actually also keep you cooler since it creates a spacing between mask and your face, I have a AZ face shell and drilled a dozen small holes in mouth section and added a sweat band inside forehead section of mask so sweat is absorbed and wont run in your eyes, I also made some custom mods to improve the overall mask look, the eye lenses are stuck in place using 3m double sided automotive tape to face shell so they are permanently in correct place for the proper look and stay aligned with face shell eye holes, I also properly stretched fabric over mask and added 3M double sided tape is specific areas so its wrinkle free and perfectly stretched everywhere and web pattern are exactly were they have to be for proper look, I hate when I see wrinkled and eyes and web lines on the face mask out of place, totally kills the look, Yes I'm very anal about the smallest details, first off this is all due to the amazing spidey4fun craftsmanship.

Hey thanks so much for the info, I happen to agree that if a faceshell isn't done right it can completely kill the look. That's a great idea to put a sweatband in the shell. I don't have a faceshell, I'm going for more of a comic-look rather than a sony look. I have a natural spidey shaped head as well :/ not sure if that's good or bad haha. You wear that suit spectacularly, like right out of the movie!

GF not to get to personal haha but how did you go about using the bathroom? Everyone says to drink plenty of water, but then I'm afraid it's going to make my bladder explode. IT's not exactly easy to get in and out of this costume.

Also do you wear any kind of shirt underneath like under armor?

Also do you bring a change of clothes so you can enjoy the con a little bit before you enjoy it as spidey?

Got the dance belt!

Thanks so much for your help!

Yes definetely a dancing belt is a must!

No undershirt, yes I always bring a change of clothes and change at the event, I basically dress up as spidey at the event. When you need to go to bathroom you have no choice but to remove costume or at least just remove top and slide it down if you need to pee.

Hey there!

I wore a spidey suit with Tjack's faceshell and lenses for Dragoncon and I've got a few tips from that experience:

- Buy some dive mask anti-fog spray and apply it well in advance of the con! This saved my life and stopped the fogging that occurred before I applied the spray.

- Wear a backpack if you can, a white drawstring bag is more than enough to carry your regular street clothes and shoes to change into so you don't have to trek back to where ever you're staying and come all the way back to the con. Grab a stall and continue enjoying the con then when you feel like changing again you're ready to go!

- Make an emergency repair kit! I brought a ziplock with some Q-Tips, paper towels, E6000 glue, extra magnets, tape, etc. My lenses did come apart in the middle of the con because the magnets were too strong and having this make shift repair kit was a life saver.

- I wore a pair of underarmor briefs and an underamor skin tight shirt (both in black) to cover up the nips when it got cold in the room and to add some extra layers to the crotch area so I didn't have to wear a cup or anything to conceal that area. They both worked out nicely and was still breathable to wear even with the suit on top!

- Not sure what time of day or how good your visibility is in your suit but I had a somewhat difficult time navigating around a sea of people or recognizing who's talking to me. I had some great friends kind of coiffure me around the con and walked in front of me to make sure I didn't accidentally run into anyone. They also did a great job of pointing people out to me who wanted to take pictures or that were talking to me and I didn't notice. I could basically see straight in front of me ok but my peripheral vision was basically zero and I couldn't tell finer details on any one. I basically walked around the Marriott again after just doing it in costume and it was like a completely different landscape but with the same people in it.

I'm sure there are more tips I could give but just can't remember, feel free to ask away!

-Make sure you drill tons of air holes into your faceshell.
-Wear compression shorts and a cup and a compression shirt (dont want to show off junk and also shirt is good for sweat absorption)
-Make sure the soles you buy are soles you would wear, dont get cheap crap
-While its optional, Separate mask>stitched on mask. YOu want to be able to remove it from time to time.
-Dont wear if its chilly, trust me.
-Brush your teeth or at least eat some gum in mask otherwise you smell your breath all day
-Anti-fog is good but not always necessary
-U-Zip is almost a must, but not necessary. if you can put your costume back on yourself without help, you dont really need one.

thats all I can think of for now
