Trying to build a 2ft Geonosian Starfighter

Wow been almost 9 months since i touched this thing!
Well I have the risers ready and will be forming the hulls
tomorrow.

Today was the big day beside one set back that
wasted a big sheet of 3mm styrene it went great!
I had a open seam in the bottom of the former it
didnt pull on the first attempt! I got that fixed with some
wrapping material.

Top hull first...... then bottom hull

Trimming the plastic flash....it's still at about 3mm in thickness because
the part is not very high, so not much stretching going on. This makes
it like a super strong shell no flexing at all the entire length, thats
kind of important because each pod is 2ft long.

Mock up.....
There is a gap because i still need to take away 3mm off the top and
lower hull.....that's from the pattern's bottom profiles being built
up on 3mm styrene sheet.

Ok I got one pod sanded and looking pretty seamless
down the edges. That would be the pod in the background in the shots,
the one in the foreground is still lumpy and un-sanded.

LOL!, You got to wait till after 9p.m. AL :facepalm. That looks sweet Mike as long as I have putty seams will vanish Lol.

Not if you get a real phone.

Looking good. Not going to need much putty on those seems. Not bad for doing it by hand. Who needs a milling machine.

Lol, I got to see this new project live Yesterday and the rest of Mike's Fantastic work it was like a Mini ILM tour his Twin-Pod car just beautiful and then that huge snow speeder Mike is one talented builder and a heck of a nice guy who has introduced me to the world of Vaccum forming, The Vaccum forming with Uncle Mike Show Lol.

I'm glad to see this build back in progress. it's very inspiring and some amazing scratch building techniques...I love seeing the process on stuff like this. I picked up 4 of those 1-2-3 blocks to use on my next project...going to come in real handy. Looks great, Mike.

Ok spent some time working on the ball turret
for the ball I used a ping pong ball seems about
right?

Started by making a part to vacuum from

Getting the clay in there....
005-1.jpg

Using the ball with some sand paper to shape the inside....
