So a while back I picked up an old powder operated nail gun, made here in Australia by Ramset. The model I got is about the be made obselete so you won't be able to buy parts or consumables any more, so the decision - ebay or raygun, ebay or raygun. Raygun won so here we go. The before photo of a similar one.
After giving it a clean and pulling it apart and laying it out how it would sort of sit, this is what it now looks like. I did a test paint of the orange part to see how well it would accept plastic primer/filler and it comes out well. Obviously the logos on the side will be removed and detailed maybe with lights or other greeblies. Body is plastic, grips are one piece rubber and front is aluminium, The rest is steel. It has a fair weight to it complete but stripped, and assuming most of the innards are left out it will be hefty but not out of the realms of belief as a hand held weapon.
Additional internal parts, some of which may be used and some may not
I really like the hexagonal end to the aluminium section, you can see the hex tube that fits into it, kind of has the same feel as the old muzzle loading pistols, I'd like to use that if I can.
I'm at a loss where to go with it, stuck between futuristic and vintage or steampunk styles, and stuck trying to decide if it will be a laser/ray type of weapon or something that takes a projectile (after all not all sci fi weapons are lasers right?) I had thought about a harpoon style which could be displayed with a few alternate heads like grappling hook, explosive tips, hunting type heads etc, which would be something different, it has that spear gun look already, otherwise a laser/ray gun is pretty easy but has been done plenty of times. I also have these:
If you don't recognise them, they are the CO2 cylinders used in the vintage soda dispensers that make carbonated water, but coffee shops also use them in their pressurised cream dispensers, a small shop goes through 30 in a week so I can get a lot more - fuel cells, projectiles maybe or greeblies. The fact that the nailgun "breaks" in the middle like a shotgun or grenade launcher means it could be used to do a projectile type weapon with multiple loads too.
I have heaps of found parts including some large mercury switches (who doesn't like a weapon with liquid on it somewhere). What to do, what to do.....
Soooo.....what should I do? I'm going to put it out there and see if the clever folk here can give me some great suggestions. What would people like to see? No guarantee I'll go with it, but I'm completely uncertain where to start so need some guidance.
