Zombie Crawl Costume.

Hey everyone. Our local zombie crawl is coming up this weekend, and I'd thought I'd share some pic's of my sculpture, and cast. I decided to go with silicone this time. Unfortunately in my rush I forgot to encapsulate the piece, so I'm going to have so crappy edges to deal with. I'm hoping I'll be able to hide most of them with some skin tite. Here is what I have so far. I still have to cast the and paint the tongue, but other than that, It's pretty much done.

Thanks for looking.

This looks absolutely wonderful, are there any tutorials out there or articles I could read about encapsulation? I'd like to better understand the process.

Thanks Vertigo. I don't know of any tutorials out there that deal strictly with encapsulation, but the process is used to ensure that you get nice thin edges. Two types of encapsulation I know of are to stipple a thin layer of silicone on both your negative and positive molds, and to get very thin edges, for around the eyes or such, you can dilute the silicone you're using, and air brush a layer on. There is also something called Super-Baldiez II that you can thin down and spray onto your molds that will give you paper thin edges that melt with a bit of IPA. I really want to try the Super-Baldiez method next year.

So it's basically what it sounds like, sammiching (this is a technical term) the silicone between two extremely thin layers yes?

By the way, what are you doing for the tongue that's hanging down that was originally sculpted?

Yes, that is the technique in a nut-shell. Since I didn't do that, you can see in the painted pictures that I really don't have any paper thin edges in very many spots. You live you learn though. I casted the tongue in silicone also, and I will be gluing it to my chin in that bare spot of the cast. Should be able to get good wringling motion that way.

Hey everyone. Had the Zombie Crawl this past weekend. Thought I would post up some pictures that I have found so far. All in all it was a fun time. The edges on my cast really sucked, and I didn't have enough time to blend the appliance in with my skin. But you live you learn. I already have ideas for next year, and hope I can fix all of these problems.
